As the American Left becomes more bold in its drive for a Social Democracy with an authoritarian central bureaucracy (not socialism or communism or Marxism, the American Right is getting it wrong and opening the door even wider), we're seeing their efforts manifest in more control (or attempted control) over health care, business, personal income, speech/expression and other primary elements of American life.
Here's my question: When did this happen?
I'm trying to come up with a time when the Left became more emboldened to expose more and more of what it really wants. It has to be recent, because an important part of this has been demographics and the Left's celebrated "browning of America".
My impression is that it was around the 2008 elections, in which the Democrats over-interpreted the results (a quality both parties possess in tons) and became far more authoritarian.
Guesses, opinions? How and when did the party of inclusion and freedom of expression so successfully change into the party of conformity and authoritarianism?
Hopefully the hardcore left-wing partisan ideologues won't pollute this thread with too much denial and spin and distortion, it's a serious question, because I believe the Left is going to ultimately be successful in their vision of a compliant, authoritarian America. I just wonder at what point the die was cast.
