So let's review why "Conservatives" hate McCain.

1) He acted as a foil against Bush, but supported him 90% of the time. This is actually healthy for a political party. We can see what happens when a political party turns into a cult and no one questions the leadership.

2) He supported McCain-Feingold (which Bush eventually signed). Um. Okay. If you don't see the problem with billionaires like Soros and the Koch Brothers being able to spend unlimited amounts of money trying to influence politics, I'm not sure there is much to be done for you.

3) He supported McCain-Kennedy, which Bush also endorsed... but then withdrew his support for it. This is more a reflection on the racism that has infected the GOP, rather than flaws with what was actually a pretty sensible compromise. (Increased border security in exchange for a path of citizenship that would have put undocumented immigrants behind legal immigrants.)

4) He opposed Trump. Trust me, when Trump is gone in November, Republicans are going to be falling all over themselves to wash their hands of him.

The airwaves are filled with Trump making disparaging comments about members of the military on video - especially John McCain. I think that Trump is jealous that the military get all of this respect just because of their service and he gets none. Families of service members killed in the line of duty said when Trump called, he didn't even know their loved one's name.

Remember that court martialled SEAL Team member that Trump intervened in the case and had him reinstated? Trump didn't ask the other members of that guy's unit how THEY felt about Trump's actions. These of that SEAL Team considered that man to be a traitor to their values, and they testified against him at his court martial. They were ashamed of his actions and felt he had dishonoured them. And Trump made him into a hero.
