It is one of our most honored clichés that America is an idea and not a nation. This is false. America is indisputably a nation, and one that desperately needs to protect its interests, its borders, and its identity.

The Brexit vote and the election of Donald Trump swept nationalism to the forefront of the political debate. This is a good thing. Nationalism is usually assumed to be a dirty word, but it is a foundation of democratic self-government and of international peace.

It’s time to recover a healthy American nationalism, and especially a cultural nationalism that insists on the assimilation of immigrants and that protects our history, civic rituals, and traditions, which are under constant threat.

It was the idea of Liberty, Freedom and Independence that created America.

It was using the British colonies from Maine to FL as bargaining chips that was infuriating.

giving FL back to Spain at the end of War of Independence is not taught in schools outside of FL. Swapping fishing rights in New England back and forth with France was the big reason that New England was the hot bed of revolution in the war of Independence. Scottish nationalists exiled to the Carolinas and their willingness to kill anyone who was not advancing the cause of Scottish Independence during our War of Independence is another argument for nationalism being the big force in the drive to independence.

running on a nationalist message, Donald J Trump vanquished Hillary Rodham Clinton in 2016.

similarly, in 1992, Patrick J Buchanan vanquished and defeated a Republican president, one George HW Bush!

Providence has been pleased to give this one connected country to one united people - a people descended from the same ancestors, speaking the same language, professing the same religion, attached to the same principles of government, very similar in their manners

Our culture, our economy, our whole theory of freedom is premised on the dignity & power of the working man & woman. Ours is a middle class Republic, and to preserve the American nation means to preserve the security & prosperity of this American Middle.

thats the real backbone, Pocahontas!

"Our identity as a nation – unlike many other nations – is not determined by geography or ethnicity, by soil or blood. Being an American involves the embrace of high ideals and civic responsibility." - Pres. George W. Bush
