Maybe one or two electors defect and no one bats an eye.

If more defected, enough to change the outcome of the election, a protest from the right would almost certainly take place. It wouldn’t be about crying on YouTube or knocking over garbage cans

From what I've read, no faithless elector has ever actually been prosecuted or fined.

Even if there were enough faithless electors to change the election results, I don't think it would be by giving Clinton enough electoral votes. A more likely scenario would be enough electors changing from Trump that neither candidate ends up with enough votes for the win and it is moved to the House, although the chances of even that are vanishingly small.

"Here comes the loophole. There is NO constitutional or federal law that compels an elector to honor any “pledge” and that is a hole big enough to fly a fleet of 747 planes through.
