Based on those numbers the big lesson is people with depression should avoid firearms.

It's a respected tradition there. Guns just make it easier here. A bit over 19,000 gun suicides per year here.Based on those numbers the big lesson is people with depression should avoid firearms.
People kill themselves with out firearms all the time. Hell there are more suicides in Japan then here and they don't own firearms.
It's not the guns, it's demographics and economics. We also put a whole lot of people behind bars eh?
As firearms have increased in the US murder rates and crime rates have decreased. Already linked to an explanation of why a 1986 study that claimed you were 43 times more likely to die if you owned a firearm was bullshit. In another thread.

They often will find another way but a gun is the fast-track. I'm not big on gun lovers so as long as they only shoot themselves or their families, so be it.CaféAuLait;8680660 said:It's a respected tradition there. Guns just make it easier here. Yet, there were almost 40,000 suicides, about half use fire arms. IMO if someone is going to kill themselves they will find a way, gun or no gun.

I wouldn't either, and I didn't.CaféAuLait;8680688 said:I would not categorize someone as a gun lover if they own a weapon.

Yup. If we use the liberal logic, people shouldn't own knives or they could hurt themselves or others, shouldn't live in two story houses since they could jump out the window, they shouldn't have any kind of medicines or they'll overdose, they shouldn't own a car because they could run it in garage and kill themselves or drive it off cliff, they shouldn't have straight razors or they'll cut their wrists and they shouldn't be allowed to own a rope or they'll hang themselves.
And most of all, people shouldn't keep their own money because they could go out and buy all of the above.
The left is selective about the things they express concern for. While knives are the most common weapon of choice for murderers, the left hasn't said squat about that. Of course, knives don't scare tyrants, only real weapons do.
