The Myth of Sanders’ Socialism

True ignorance is common in the land of the (not) free. The billionaire’s media sees to that. This is yet another perfect example. This myth is believed by many on the right and left. The 1% who run everything don’t much like Bernie, so their media makes sure to dupe millions into thinking as they do.

The Myth of Sanders’ “Socialism”

Fox News has an all-out frontal assault on Bernie Sanders’ purported “socialism.” It is a sad statement on the level of ignorance in this country that anyone could take seriously the charge that Sanders is a socialist. What Sanders is advocating is something approaching the social-welfare systems of other economically developed countries and that’s a far cry from the socialism Fox News is using as a boogeyman to frighten conservatives. The “socialism” Fox is decrying is the old-fashioned Stalinist-Maoist kind where all important industries are nationalized, most of the private property of the wealthy is seized by the state, and there are no such things as individual rights and freedoms because the very idea of “individuals” is considered capitalist propaganda.

The Myth of Sanders' "Socialism" - CounterPunch.org

Someone please advise the OP of the elephant in the room, which is Sanders describes himself as a socialist.

And all good governments are always socialist.
Anything a good government does is not for the profit motive, like roads, post office, etc., so then is always socialist.
Socialism is always good.
It is only the profit motive of capitalism where greed causes abuses, like slavery, feudalism, etc.

Hilarious..........................

Slade was just telling us how it's CONSERVATIVES who don't know the meaning of socialism.

YES! It is conservatives who do not at all know the meaning of socialism.
Whenever something is not done for a profit motive, it is socialism.
That is anything joint, collective, communal, or cooperative.
For example, when the workers start or buy their own company.
That is socialism.
In fact, any regulation of private enterprise, like laws against child labor, or trust busting, that is socialism.
Good Point
Most people that discuss ism's have no idea what they mean. The welfare state, socialism, and communism are not the same although conservatives use them rather interchangeably.

Neat how PROGS suggest conservatives don't know the meanings of terms. PROG-material running thin I suppose, TDS and desperation, long on narratives & short on reason.

Bernie considers himself a socialist, specifically a democratic socialist. Course you PROGS know what that is already right? After all, many support him.

He didn’t slash it for infectious diseases.Bet you didn’t know that

Uh, yeah, he did... he cut 700 positions from the CDC. He ended cooperation with China on infecteous diseases.

Trump also fired the Pandemic Response Team..

Did Trump Fire the US Pandemic Response Team?

Rear Adm. Timothy Ziemer abruptly departed from his post leading the global health security team on the National Security Council in May 2018 amid a reorganization of the council by then-National Security Advisor John Bolton, and Ziemer’s team was disbanded. Tom Bossert, whom the Washington Post reported “had called for a comprehensive biodefense strategy against pandemics and biological attacks,” had been fired one month prior.

It’s thus true that the Trump administration axed the executive branch team responsible for coordinating a response to a pandemic and did not replace it, eliminating Ziemer’s position and reassigning others, although Bolton was the executive at the top of the National Security Council chain of command at the time.

Covid-19 is Trump Katrina.

Unqualified (surprise) and Democrat, (the two go together) Connecticut Commissioner of Public Health.

Should you panic in regards to a flu or the fact the head of public health policy is that democrat thing who has not the slightest clue in regards to science. This beast seems to have the same talking points as that fake, dirty cop Mueller!

Commissioner Renée Coleman-Mitchell said recently that she would not release the latest round of school-by-school immunization data, even though she decided last spring to make public the same statistics from a previous year. She pointed to the national measles outbreak as a reason for her earlier disclosure, but said the waning threat meant she could no longer justify disseminating the information...

“I am not able, nor should I weigh in on anything that’s public legislation that comes about as a result of any of the work we do,” she said when asked about her reluctance to offer an opinion on vaccine exemptions. “That’s not in the purview of my role.”

A not-so public commissioner of public health

Republicans have successful equated the social welfare systems with socialism and socialism with communism, nazism, atheism, and just about every other evil known to mankind for the last 40 or 50 years. They did pretty much the same with Clinton. Clinton was carrying too baggage in 2016 and so is Sander in 2020. Biden has his skeletons but unlike Sanders, republicans have only about 6 months to convince voters that he's the devil incarnate.
Agreed. Social welfare programs are considered bad by average Americans on the right and left. However I don’t think this ignorant belief is caused by republicans. It is caused by the oligarchy. The billionaires and such who control government and media.

What is rather surprising is these same duped Americans are completely unaware of the government’s many efforts in providing socialism for the extreme wealthy.

No, guy. The Oligarchy isn't what creates a hostility to Social Programs, it's the person with a SNAP Card living large in the grocery line while we have to count our pennies. Most of us who work for a living really don't like to see an able-bodied person getting SNAP, Section 8, Medicaid and TANF. We don't like seeing the person who doesn't work more than 30 hours a week so they still qualify for all those benefits.

Now, yeah, Corporate Welfare is also bad, and we really need to review our Middle Class Entitlements, which take up a lot more money than assistance to the poor. But it's not some vast fucking conspiracy to create hostility to these programs. They are just the low-hanging fruit of our political discourse.

People looked at what Commie Bernie was offering and rejected it.

Yeah ending non-stop wars and providing HC for all Americans as is done in all other western nations, is just so passé.

Thanks Hillary.

Not where most Americans are at right now, sorry. Most Americans think there are too many people on welfare.

They also don't really trust the government to run their health care if they have private insurance. Frankly, I disagree, but I understand the sentitment.

What Biden is proposing is more practical. Fix Obamacare, let people who are happy with their insurance keep their insurance.

LOL. Biden has dementia but you are a good little toady of the establishment, so you support him.

Stopping war and providing HC are hardly impractical.

No, they haven't. In fact the vast majority of them have retreated from socialism because they figured out it doesn't work, and is stupid.
