New York police uncover $10M drug ring, 3,000 pounds of marijuana seized
March 12, 2016 -- Two New York men were arrested and charged after they were found hauling 3,000 pounds of marijuana in a rented U-Haul, officials said.
Philip Feng, 36, and Victor Bae, 35, were part of a $10 million drug ring in Brooklyn, the New York Police Department said. The two were arrested on multiple counts of drug and marijuana possession and the possession of a firearm. The marijuana found by police was vacuum-sealed and labeled with such street names as Emperor Jack, Sour Diesel, Kosher Kush and Fruit Loops, among others.

Authorities also found 1,100 containers of liquid THC, liquid PCP, liquid human growth hormones and psychedelic mushrooms, collectively worth $2.5 million. The bust began when undercover agents watched Feng and Bae pick up a shipping container and load it into the U-Haul truck on March 9, Brooklyn-based outlet DNA Info reported. Officials then conducted a traffic stop and discovered the drugs.

Officers issued a search warrant of a garage connected to the two men, discovering a lab used to make liquid marijuana to be used in vaporizers. NYPD Inspector John Denesopolis of the Crime Enterprise Investigation Unit said such paraphernalia is new in the city. Feng reportedly used his profits to fund his growing collection of World War II memorabilia, New York Daily News said. Among his collection was an authentic decoding machine which might have been used to break encrypted Nazi messages.

April 15, 2016 -- Four suspected smugglers have been detained as U.S. authorities seized 1,110 kilograms of cocaine worth $32.7 million in Caribbean waters.
In a joint operation, the crews of the Coast Guard cutter Richard Dixon and naval vessel USS Shamal apprehended a Colombian and three Venezuelan men, who were taken for questioning to Department of Justice offices in South Florida. "The swift response and coordination between the responding units prevented this illegal shipment from reaching shore," said Capt. Robert W. Warren, Coast Guard Sector San Juan Commander.

During a routine patrol April 7, a maritime patrol aircraft spotted a suspicious-looking 30-foot blue-hulled go-fast vessel, 150 miles south of La Romana, Dominican Republic. Coast Guard and U.S. Navy crews were dispatched to intercept the vessel, and fired warning shots before boarding the alleged smuggler's boat. Just last week, authorities seized 550 pounds of cocaine, worth more than $8.25 million, in international waters north-west of Aruba.
