While De Blasio is a radical leftist, he came to power as part of the "ACORN" election in which the left had made an aggressive push to hijack the City Council. And was feeling its oats nationwide. So that no matter how much he attacked the NYPD, pandered to Muslims, pushed destructive left-wing policies at every level, it was never enough. It could never be enough.

Now, with an investigation hanging over his head, his career seems to be headed for the exit.

How de Blasio’s quest for the spotlight may end up backfiring

Mayor de Blasio wants to become America’s leading leftist voice by using a Trump administration as a foil, but the effort could hurt his bid to return to City Hall next year.

Hizzoner sent a fundraising email to supporters Sunday promising to “stand up” to attempts to deport people or take away their health insurance and wrote in a defiant Facebook post Wednesday that “the federal government can’t tell us how to police our streets.”

Hours later he met with President-elect Trump and afterward held a press conference where he said New Yorkers are “fearful” of a Trump presidency.

“He got an hour with Trump and told him, ‘Don’t do this’ and I think all this helps his re-election and takes the thunder out of opponents,” one Democratic consultant close to the mayor said. “He’s smart about looking like he’s going to seize anti-Trump sentiment.”

On Friday de Blasio compared himself to Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders and vowed to “draw a line in the sand” whenever he disagreed with Trump’s policies.

“Anything we see as divisive, anything we see as bigotry, undermining core, American, Constitutional values, we have to fight intensely,” de Blasio told WNYC’s Brian Lehrer.

Some observers think de Blasio might lose local voters as he tries to ascend a national stage.

“He may have these aspirations but there’s not much record to suggest he will be successful in becoming a darling of the progressive movement on par with Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren,” said Democratic consultant Dan Gerstein.

Convicted Armed Forces of National Liberation (FALN) terrorist leader Oscar Lopez Rivera appeared on a float at the front of the Puerto Rican Day Parade with New York City Council Speaker Melissa Mark Viverito, The New York Post reported.

Parade organizers initially tried to honor Lopez Rivera with an official award, but a mass pull out by corporate sponsors and key regular attendees over that move caused Lopez Rivera to decline the honor. However, Lopez Rivera was highlighted just by riding on the front display that moved down 5th Avenue.

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio previously insisted Lopez Rivera would not receive any award and that he would not march in the parade if that award was given, but ultimately, de Blasio marched in the parade, the Post noted, and maintained a 10 block distance from Lopez Rivera.

That the mayor of America’s largest city is planning to march with a convicted terrorist in next month’s Puerto Rican Day Parade illustrates a fundamental fact about the Left in America: From student activists all the way up to leading officials, not excluding the 44th president, they are willing to shrug off terrorism provided it has sufficient left-wing bona fides.

New York City mayor Bill de Blasio says he will march behind Oscar López Rivera, the convicted Puerto Rican terrorist who served 35 years in prison before President Obama commuted his sentence. Organizers of the parade, to be held June 11 on Fifth Avenue, say that not only will López Rivera lead it, but he will in a sense be designated the hero of the entire history of the celebration: He’ll be granted the title of “National Freedom Hero,” a designation never before bestowed on anyone.

It is revealing that de Blasio hired legacy leftist Maya Wiley as his mayoral counsel. Wiley previously worked for the Soros-funded Center for Social Inclusion, which teaches Democrat members of Congress how to lie about and smear their adversaries. Wiley, who also worked at Soros’s philanthropies, is the daughter of the late George Wiley, whose single-issue National Welfare Rights Organization (NWRO) founded multi-issue ACORN in 1970. On Capitol Hill, she taught lawmakers how to use “the issue of race to defend government programs,” as one media outlet put it. Rhetoric used by conservatives and free-market enthusiasts is consciously or unconsciously racially coded, she taught, and needed to be overcome with anger.

“It’s emotional connection, not rational connection that we need,” she said. For example, Wiley offered that former House Speaker Newt Gingrich calling Barack Obama a “food stamp president,” cannot be “a race-neutral statement, even if Newt Gingrich did not intend racism.” In other words, all criticism of Obama by definition is rooted in racism.

Maybe Bill de Blasio hopes to win another term as mayor by calling his critics names.

It worked for Obama.
