It makes no difference whatsoever who the Democrat candidate is this November. The policies will be identical, and probably the people who are actually implementing them will be the same operative. The true Democrat Faithful want only one thing: a Democrat win. They don't care any more than I do about who is the candidate. But it seems clear that "Plan B," the former Senator from California, is even more unpopular than President Biden, and would have even less chance than he does of winning in November. This is why they are supporting him. There is no other viable option. There is no pattern or plan of actions that can lead to anyone else being at the top of the ticket. They are stuck with either Biden or Harris. Biden has the better chance or winning, despite his obvious issues.
