The truth about gun violence.

And don't say this is because of a difference in cultures. Dead is dead regardless of language or customs.
Guns don't kill people, but people kill people...with guns.

The simple truth is that guns are not responsible. How do I know this? Let's look at the statistics.

Gun violence in the United States by state - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This list has the numbers for total population, population density, number of murders per 100,000, number of GUN murders per 100,000, as well as the percentage of population that owns a firearm.

First, we'll take a look at DC. It has a gun ownership percentage of 3.6 percent. Murders and gun murders are 21.8 and 16.5 per 100K.

As you can see, it has the lowest number of guns and the highest number of gun murders.

Next, we have Hawaii. 6.7 percent. 1.8, .5 Almost twice the number of guns, and almost no gun murders.

Both have very few guns, yet their gun murder rates aren't even in the same ballpark.

Looking at some other states with high gun ownership, we also see states with high and low gun murder rates. Once again, we have similar gun ownership percentages, yet the number of gun murders aren't even close.

So what does this tell us? The number of guns available to the public have no relation to the number of gun murders. Something else is to blame. Not the guns.

Haven't we been through this before?

Guns exacerbate bad situations.
Criminals do, guns have nothing to do with criminal behavior. Dip shit

And cigarettes don't cause lung cancer. And speeding doesn't cause auto accidents. It's people who cause cancer and car crashes.

A smart, patient and determined person will be able to get around any law.

But the test of gun regulations isn't whether or not you can prevent all violence, but whether or not you can limit the violence.

If a gun regulation is sufficient to stop one stupid, emotionally unstable person from slaughtering innocent people, than it has served its purpose. If we erect obstacles in front of the stupid just long enough for their rage to subside, you could save lives. Why make it easy for the small number of truly stupid people who actually could be stopped?

This is why we lock the doors of our cars and houses - not because we think it's possible to stop everyone but because we don't want to make it easy.

But the Republicans have created a slippery slope whereby even regulating suspected terrorists from getting guns is seen as the total death of freedom for all. This is not only intellectually lazy, it is murderous.

That is why there are warnings on cigarettes and fines for speeding. Because they are the tools of the behavior that cause grievous harm, total shit for brains.

When we know better, we do better.
I can remember when the CEOs of all the big tobacco companies went before Congress and lied by saying, "I believe that nicotine is not addictive." Each and every one of them.
Guns and the NRA are the new tobacco/cancer fight.

When the Tobacco Cartel was crushed by Jeffrey Wigand, the people won:

THIS is fucking insane.

Of course we want to do everything possible to limit evil people from killing us. One such limit is to take measures to disarm them.

Gun ownership does not effect crime rates. That said, mass killers with high capacity semi autos kill a lot more than ones with derringers.

And you would of course be lying by omission.........magazine capacity has no bearing on the ability of mass shooters to murder people.....actual research into the issue shows this...

Exactly, so when we catch a criminal using a gun to commit a crime, you arrest them.

If you catch a felon in mere possession of a gun, you arrest them.

Both of these actions can already be done under existing law.

And that is a lie.........in order to get even close to car deaths you have to include suicides......

Gun murder in 2014.... 8,124...

Car deaths in 2014... 33,000

accidental death with guns in 2015... 586

Guns in private hands in 2016.... 357,000,000

It isn't even close...so you have to lie and include people using guns to commit suicide...which was just over 21,000

so that image is a lie.

And yet you fight to have them. Why is that? If reloading often does not slow the rate of fire you must be fine with a ban right?

49 dead and over 50 wounded says high capacity magazines help kill many really fast. Try that with a derringer.

And of course the rest of your post is a lie too......you left out Mexico and Russia, both with extreme gun control and higher gun murder rates than the United States....

And those countries listed....they do not have the thugs who commit murder the way our thugs do....

And Japan in particular...I have posted the study by David Kopel...where he points out it is Japanese culture, not gun control, that keeps their gun murder rate and over all crime rate down...since their crime rate is lower than ours in all categories, not just gun crime....

And of course the fact is the Yakuza still get weapons....and have gang wars where they use guns and grenades to murder each other......and how did Japan deal with that...they followed the advice of AMerican gun owners...they put a 30 year sentence on gun crimes.....and the Yakuza have reduced their use of illegal guns....

And don't say this is because of a difference in cultures. Dead is dead regardless of language or customs.
Guns don't kill people, but people kill people...with guns.

It is a difference in cultures......the cultures you pointed out in your silly post have criminals who do not commit murder as often as our criminals do....the criminals in those countries have access to guns..they get them easily....they just don't use them to commit murder.....

Using guns to commit robbery and rape is not the same as using them to commit murder...our thugs will murder 9 year old children to retaliate against another gang member....theirs don't......

Wrong.....on every level......

we have federally mandated background checks...not one mass shooters was stopped by them.

criminals are not stopped by background checks, they use people with clean records to buy their guns...and will use straw buyers if they want a gun from a private seller as well....

Gun free zones have led to the deaths of a lot of people.....even though we have seen that actual mass shooters pick gun free zones as targets, the anti gunner refuse to get rid of them.....

We are not regulating suspected terrorists from getting guns because the ACLU is fighting the no fly list......remember that? And we know that U.S. air marshals are flagging people for the no fly list simply because they have a quota.....and once you are on the list there is not way to get off of it without political intervention...

So we have to have actual due process to keep someone from being put on a list without cause....even the ACLU backs this...so stop blaming the NRA for your authoritarian power grabs....

It doesn't do a thing...you have seen the actual research...it doesn't slow down a mass shooter , it will be used to ban pistols and rifles for no reason, and it will impact the defensive use by normal, law abiding citizens......

You have seen the research that shows that the rate of fire of mass shooters does not change when they switch magazines.....and this is research that looked at real mass shootings....not fantasies you have made up in that tiny brain of yours....you have seen this research over and over and that you deny it shows you are a troll and a liar.

Nope...a lie......suicides are not gun murder...gun murder is exactly what is implied when you do not specify suicides are in the count...so that is a lie.........

Japan, South Korea, and China only allow criminals and cops to have guns.......and their suicide rates are higher than ours.....

One of the countries the twit lists....poland...higher suicide rate than us...

So it is a lie.....
