Law enforcement costs would plummet, jail populations would plummet. Violent crime would plummet. Property crime would plummet. Making drugs illegal means that when the person finally makes the choice to get clean they invariably have a criminal record that screws up any chance they have to get a regular job and get a normal life. They are doomed to failure. That is simply stupid. The untold misery is already here. More to the point, if the drugs are legal it is only those who CHOOSE to take them that will be sick. Innocent kids won't be killed in their beds by assholes. They DON'T have a choice, they DO suffer because drugs are illegal.
