Obviously you flunked English. Isn't English important to a kids future?
Yes, English is important. It's a basic skill that by the time kids get to high school they should already have basics in English. English could be a tool to teach higher level skills that are needed along with honing basic skills too. Are they? In some ways yes. The SAT exam asks students to write an essay and make comparatives. However I'm not sure how great this is, I'm assuming that most people on this board have done the SATs and many of them can't do the simplest critical thinking, debating, making a coherent argument, backing up their point and so on. I basically learned this myself, not from English class. History taught me a little of this, but not much.
