What has concerned me most is the deafening silence from main stream Muslims. They for whatever reason refuse to speak out against the small minority of their faith which gives cause for people out side of Islam to distrust Islam.

I agree that we are way more likely in our western society to be killed by someone on a shooting spree, than by an act of terrorism. A notable exception would be the Boston bombers. It is very unlikely here that someone would walk around with a vest packed with explosives. This however is not the case in Iraq or Afghanistan. Why would Muslims there be willing to sacrifice themselves for the sake of their religion, but not here? What makes them tick, referencing back to the OP?

As for what makes Americans tick in regards to the mass shootings, I would say it has to do with severe mental illness.

Several months after the Boston tragedy--there was discussion about the degree of involvement the widow might have had. I assume nothing was discovered--since there has been no further discussion?

And even then - most acts of terrorism in the US are not done by Muslims so, if by chance you miss being struck by lightening and get hit by a terrorist instead...it's likely to be a Christian (given the demographics here).

The discussion is not pertinent to Christians.
it is focused on the well documented extremism and resulting violence associated with Islam. The side issue is while it is accepted that some 95% of Muslims reject this behavior, their silence on the damage the extremists do to the Muslim religions is deafening.
BTW, when was the last time an abortion clinic was bombed? When was the last time extremism where a Christian blew up anything?
