The U.S. News and World Report has more bad Obamacare–is there any other kind?–news: The nation’s top hospitals may not accept many Obamacare policies
Americans who sign up for Obamacare will be getting a big surprise if they expect to access premium health care that may have been previously covered under their personal policies. Most of the top hospitals will accept insurance from just one or two companies operating under Obamacare.
Will President Obama call these institutions “bad apples” as he has insurance companies that followed the “law of the land”–aka, his “signature achievement”–and canceled millions of policies that people liked? Good grief.

i dunno how it works. can a hospital or a doctor simply not accept obamacare?

I don't know either but i would certainly think so. ERs have to accept everyone, even those that can't pay. But the rest of the hospital and private practice doctors can refuse you service if you have no insurance or if they think your insurance is inadequate.

I suspect a lot of hospitals are gonna demand the insurance be paid up front.

Isn't it wonderful to have more choices?

Doesn't the hospital simply see the patient arriving either with an insurance policy or without?

What distinguishes it as an Obamacare policy and what difference does it make to a hospital?

... and the horror stories will only get worse as they pile up by the day.

This is totally false. Note that not one single hospital opting out of ACA is identified in the article. It is pure BS. Hospitals are in no condition to turn away anyone whio has insurance. Their bed days have been dropping for decades.

If it worked that way there would be no out of network hospitals, would there?

They can also opt out of plans that are sold through the Exchanges. For example, Doctors and Hospitals can contract with a Insurance Companies for certain HMO or PPO plans, but opt out of other plans sold by that particular company. It is done all the time.

I did hospital contracting for years. Hospitals turn away insurance plans and customers all the time. You have no idea what you're talking about.

Regulations driven by the Obama White House have indeed made insurance more affordable – if, like Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, you're looking only at price. But responding to Obamacare caps on premiums, many insurers will, in turn, simply offer top-tier doctors and hospitals far less cash for services rendered.

Watchdog.org looked at the top 18 hospitals nationwide as ranked by U.S. News and World Report for 2013-2014. We contacted each hospital to determine their contracts and talked to several insurance companies, as well.

The result of our investigation: Many top hospitals are simply opting out of Obamacare.

Maybe you should learn how to read, it mentions Cleveland Clinic and Cedars Sinai.

Then you have the fact that in California the website is supposed to help you select insurance by hospital, except that part doesn't work.

...and so did I, as Vice President of provider contracting at at least 3 HMO's, which was just a small part of my 50 year career in health insurance, sparky. Hospital bed days have been dropping so fast that most hospitals are converting major portions of space to outpatient surgery and other outpatient proceedures.

Do not consider your self as having rare and priviledged information, son. I also worked at Charity hospital in New Orleans as one of the team that negotiated with insurance companies on the other side of the fence. Hospitals will take any insurance that is offered to them, as long as they can balance bill the patient. If they can't do that, they may choose not to take that insurance as payment for services. This, however, is extremely rare, since virtually every hospital takes Medicare patients, which is among the lowest allowed rates paid to hospitals...with no balance billing allowed.
