Robertson has the right to say what he wants.

A&E has the right to repudiate and break ties with him.

Duck Dynasty fans and sympathizers have a right to push back.

This is America in all its rowdy greatness.



But Robertson's statements about gays and blacks are repugnant to me so I'm having trouble working up much sympathy for that particular set of millionaires.

I am not sure whose figures are nonsense or not but I do know it isn't a choice. I didn't choose to be heterosexual, I was born that way and I cannot fathom why anyone would choose to be homosexual, given all the hardships they face. Are you trying to tell me that you made a choice about your sexuality, that you actually considered being a homosexual at one time but rejected that choice?

I don't know many heterosexuals who have been faced with that choice. Homosexuals, though, are faced with that choice because of the dictates of society, and many of them choose to be what they are, homosexual, and not bow to the demands of some diety or arbitraty social mores.

There is a lot of room for all kinds of different people in my God's heaven.

yes, a&e certainly has a right to do what they please, if they see his remarks as casting them in a bad light, or somehow running against or counter to the image they wish to put out, *shrugs*.

But let it be said, they knew exactly what they were getting. Phil has said things like this before, whether anyone is offended or not, its a little late for the fainting couch. If they are surprised that he spoke this way, then they are fools or employed a self willed ignorance. Maybe they thought he'd keep a sock in it, but when it took off and the $$ started rolling in they had to know this was going to happen. I don't think thats it, I think they feel like I do that there is some imbalance and selective outrage being employed, I am not arguing a&e cannot do what they did, I am addressing the bolded portion of your remark, there are plenty of reality shows , or others like MTV that seek the bottom, use the lowest denominator when it comes to humor or their idea of appeal, Glaad didn't say squat when a howard stern show had a comic go thru a whole rough and deprecatory routine on gay anal sex, ok, fine, I don't think she should have been barred from the stern show or any show there after ( and glaad didn't either) , its the selectivity. Capitalism means a company can do what it wants in the best interests of the company. If this company feels firing this guy is in their best interests, that is what they will do.
