Trump needs to win now.

... the world cannot trust the people of the US anymore. We are always one election from having a Russian asset lead it.
Yeah, that's the problem.

They spent the Biden years watching us carefully. One election wasn't enough. They didn't fully trust us.

Now, it will take several American election cycles, and I can't blame them. And by then they might well be able to tell us to fuck off.

Obviously you don't understand the metaphor: The airplane is the planet. Trump has made it abundantly clear that he is interested in transactional relationships only. He will pick and choose who and when and why and how, with every major international decision, with no ties going forward.

I think we all know that. And it's clear that his supporters like it.

Never mind.
Dude, how do you explain the mineral deal that your hero Z blew up fit into your transactional theory? That would have been a long term relationship with significant ties.

I see what the OP is saying but I believe other countries will see Trump only as a short-term problem. Comparing the reactions in yesterday's meeting between Trump and Zelensky, like they say, don't let the other side see you sweat. One would think it was the U.S. that was under the gun. I don't see Trump as having any major long-term (20-30 years) influence over our foreign relations.
Please see post 61, above.

Is that a backdoor endorsement of destructive tariffs? Cuz I have news for you. US manufacturers began taking advantage of cheaper labor around the world regardless of trade agreements.....

It's an example of the point we were discussing.

I note that you completely dropped the point we were discussing.

In favor of making a partisan point....

OK. You can have your partisan gotcha. We republicans were slow to realize the failure of the free trade policy and our actions of that, were harmful to American interests and workers.

I've spent a lot of time viewing commentary from around the world on what is happening to America, and about what happened between Trump, Vance and Zelensky at the White House. I guess I'll say this: The "good news" is that they appear to be getting it now. They appear to understand that Trump does not want ties, he wants transactional relationships.

By "transactional relationship", I mean like walking into a 7-11. You don't know the cashier, they don't know you. You grab a candy bar because you want it. The cashier wants a dollar. You give the cashier the dollar, and you walk out. You may see or interact with the cashier in the future, or you may not. When you walk out the door, that relationship is over until further notice.

Not only does it appear that the world is now understanding this, but it also appears that the world is prepared to embrace it with America. No relationship building, no sharing of what we have or know or can find out. They appear to be ready to set us apart from them, with all future dealings to be on a transactional basis only. I think there will be a time of mourning, but Europe and rest of the world knows they can't wait to act now. They have to detach.

Trump has pushed America out of the airplane. None of us know the actual quality of our parachute. This has to work, for our sake, and for the sake of our kids. We've passed the Rubicon now. It's America Alone.

I look forward to any thoughtful, original, intelligent thoughts.

Russian aggression in Ukraine happened under Obama and Biden. They are Putin's puppets, not Trump. Zelenskky wants Nato and the US to fight his war for him. Nato and the US entering the war in Ukraine directly would be seen as an existential threat by Russia and put the World on the precipice of WW III. Trump will not allow that to happen.

Zelenskky had a deal that would ensure he still had a Nation to govern. Now his only play is to hope the pussies in Europe will somehow bail him out. Europe is too cowardly and cheap to do what is necessary, so Zelenskky and Ukraine are fucked without US help.

That is it, Mac & Cheese. Understand? Zelenskky overplayed his hand and he and Ukraine are likely toast. Buh-Bye. :bye1:

I see Trump's economic tariff policy as having a more lasting effect in pushing countries away from the U.S. and being costly if he doesn't win. America manufacturing is dependent on foreign resources. If alternative markets open up for those resources, it'll be costly for our country in terms of jobs and price of goods.

Another stealthy anti-Trump poster? It was Biden/Harris that pushed America out of the plane without a parachute. Trump accomplished more in a month than Biden accomplished in his entire adult life as a career politician.

I clearly made this too complicated for you folks.

Trump is getting his way. He's won. He's changed global politics in 30 days. You win.

The question is what global politics looks like in the new world.

Good gawd.

Only Mac could make buying a candy bar a talking point.

Except for Putin

He’ll never really piss off Putin

The US has NOT had a symbiotic relationship with Ukraine. There WAS a symbiotic relationship with Russia until this Ukraine mess came about.

Ukraine is a place where people launder money....not much else.

The US is not the world's police force....not for the EU or Taiwan or Africa or the Middle East. Not even for Sputh Americans.

I get that what Russia did and is currently doing was wrong.
But that doesn't mean that the US should do anything about it. Especially when it comes to the lives of our citizens fighting in a war not of our own.
No one is talking about American boots on the ground.
How much money is Freedom worth?
how much is Running your own country worth?
& NOT be attacked by other land & power grabbers?
