The US has been the sole superpower for about 30 years and one of 2 superpowers for about 80 years. The US is keeping it's position because of it's military might and an economy that is largely set up to favour the US. Military might depends on economic might. Trump is making it very clear to the rest of the world that like you said "it's my way or the highway." The US is NOT a stronger economy than the rest of the world. In fact it's only marginally stronger than the EU. Trump is going out of his way to make the US an unreliable partner. You were already paying for other people's health care. $20 for an asprin?? $19.90 of that went to the uninsured walk-in patient's care. Your insurance premium takes that $20 asprin into account and you pay a few hundred more for your health insurance than you need to.

Every service you use is inflated in price to pay for the uninsured. All to give care to those with no insurance. Your premiums won't go down under Trump's plan. They'll go up because SOMEBODY has to cover the uninsured.

They are already replacing the US market. The Japan/EU deal is proof of that.

Because the working poor have so little disposable income, the market for high end consumer goods in the US, is not what it once was. 47% of your citizens are on some form of social assistance, so their disposable income is limited. This is not true in Europe and Japan. They have a thriving middle class. Canada has the fastest growing middle class in the world.

So while the American worker is in no danger of getting a raise from Donald Trump, and all of the proposed tax cuts are going to the top, and health insurance premiums are also rising, fewer and fewer Americans will be buying much anyway. You won't miss the imports.

China is wooing Mexico and offering infrastructure loans to the South Americans. And talking trade along the way.

Besides, with no one working at the Commerce Department to do import inspections and other paper work, many countries are finding it too difficult to get their goods across the border.

Last but not least, you completely over estimate the value of American goods, most of which aren't manufactured in the US anyway. The Chinese have been quite creative in appropriating intellectual property and stealing inventions. Your trade marks and patent rights won't be worth anything beyond your own borders.
