For millions of retirees who get most of their income and worked all their lives and depend on SS this must be a wake up call, even for the older rightwing supporters of trump

Now watch the attacks on the stories sources instead of the content

'Social Security has been called the third rail of American politics: Touch it and you die. And if that is indeed the case, then Donald Trump might want to start picking out a nice casket.

Bloomberg is reporting that when the GOP nominee met with Paul Ryan on May 12, he told the House Speaker that he does indeed favor cutting Social Security, but he’s afraid to say so publicly because it would doom his chances in November. Bloomberg cites an unnamed source who was in the room when the meeting was held.'

According to the source, Trump told Ryan:

“From a moral standpoint, I believe in it. But you also have to get elected. And there’s no way a Republican is going to beat a Democrat when the Republican is saying, ‘We’re going to cut your Social Security’

You DO realize that SS was NEVER supposed to be a long-term program, that the President who signed it warned that if allowed to be made permanent politicians would use it as a slush fund / mis-use it, right?!

Like I said a long time ago, Trump's strategy seems to be to flip flop so often that people become de-sensitized to it,
and then Trump can use it to his momentary political advantage from week to week, day to day.

But more importantly, never forget, the Republicans want to steal your Social Security and Medicare, and the more 'Republican' Trump becomes,

the more on board that scheme he will be.

SS hasn't been misused.

Republicans are afraid that over time they might actually have to start paying back some of the money the government has borrowed from SS, in the form of bonds, in the form of the assets in the Trust Fund,

and that will fuck up THEIR long term Ponzi scheme of cutting taxes and spending more and more on behalf of the defense lobby.

:wtf:

Exactly as warned, it has become a slush fund. What was created for Amerucan citizens has been opened to illegals. It is now a govt-Run PONZI scheme. My parents' money is gone. My kids' SS taxes are going to pay for my parents' SS checks and for those of illegals.

If it has not been misused and is not a ponzi scheme then it should be possible to stop the program and give everyone who has paid in a check for the amount they have paid in...and interest on their money. It does not have enough money in the program to do so.

Do the country a favor.

No, that's according to Barry Sr & Barry Jr....

And what a moronic response to facts.

A leaked unnamed source? Really and you try and defuse the BS by saying that the source will be attacked? Really? When Trump comes out and says anything close post that.

I do find it funny that people worry about how SS will be funded when it is actually in the black. But Welfare, they get increases every year and I hear no one ask how it is funded.

The problem with SS is that it is tied to the US debt. If SS was independent and linked to the DOW its assets would typically increased about 7 percent a year. Now they are barely moving and become debt to the US treasury.

a retirement program wasn't supposed to be long term :cuckoo:

These republicans know what would happen if they cut SS

Renegade Republicans Endorse Social Security Tax Increase, Get The Hell Out Of Washington

WASHINGTON ― In an unusual move, a small group of House Republicans has endorsed higher taxes as part of a bipartisan strategy to improve the long-term financing of Social Security retirement insurance.

“It’s the only bipartisan bill on Social Security reform that’s in the Congress right now,” said bill author Rep. Reid Ribble (R-Wis.), speaking on the HuffPost Politics podcast “So That Happened.”

To be precise there is no money in the program or fund at all.

Trump is right. It's a complete disaster of enslaving your children. Just a brilliant plan all around to take money from the young and poor to the old and rich. Brilliant...

The Social Security Trust Fund earns about 100 billion in interest every year.

If SS paid all of the year's incoming payroll tax PLUS that 100 billion out in that years benefits,

the assets in the Trust Fund would remain the same, and earn the same interest the next year.

That, however, would mean that the general fund of the US government would have to come up with an extra 100 billion in tax revenue -

that's how the cost of government borrowing makes itself known.

The SS 'problem' is not an Social Security problem, it's a general fund tax/borrow/spend problem. Republicans however, insist on trying to portray it as a Social Security problem, because if they make people believe that SS is to blame,

they think they can make people believe that SS should take whatever punishment is needed to fix the problem.
