Twitter challenges US order for anti-Trump user records

The company filed a lawsuit in federal court in San Francisco against the federal Department of Homeland Security and its Customs and Border Protection office, charging that their efforts to "unmask" the people behind the account violate the First Amendment.

Considering that Twitter allowed 100s of tweets discussing the assassination of the president with expressive hashtags, they literally don't have any case here.

Ummm. Yeah. I agreed with you .

This isn't about threats . It's about outing people who's opinion you don't like .

Read my comment before that one:

Over 12,000 tweets are calling for Trump's assassination. Here's how the Secret Service handles it

It's not just every account, it's a "certain account". It seems strange that lefties celebrated the fact that the IRS was used by president Hussein to punish innocent alleged political enemies of the administration but they condemn the Trump administration for working within the system.

I am saying that Twitter has no authority because it violated its own rules and the law.

Donald Trump-Putin must be removed from office.

Careful there, the Trumpettes may deem that as asking for his assassination...

By the way he is looking to unmask this user...
News about @ALT_uscis on Twitter

I can't see any death threats.

So where is your case...

"In its lawsuit, Twitter claimed the government cannot compel the company to disclose users' identities without first meeting several tests. It must prove that a criminal or civil offense has been committed, that it's not asking for information with the intent of suppressing free speech, and that the interests of the investigation outweigh the First Amendment rights of Twitter and its users, Twitter said.

But the federal agencies and other defendants "have not come close" to demonstrating any of this, the lawsuit states."

Looks like Trump is going a bit NAZI on us...

Twitter has committed multiple felonies by allowing death threats against Trump to remain on the site.

If this is allowed does the right think this won't come back on them when another president is in office?

Be careful what you cheer for.

That's a different matter. Has @ALT_uscis given death threats?
