It's no different than when somebody presses felony charges. The case becomes the property of the DA or the US Attorney, who have to convince a grand jury there is enough evidence to have the indicted stand trial.
The January 6th committee doesn't have any sway over the DOJ. Or the three other people they referred to DOJ for contempt of congress, would have been indicted by now.
Taking a page from Eric HolderThe Trumpsters are in charge of deciding which facts, elections, committees, court rulings, election audits and subpoenas are "legitimate".
So those pesky old rules and laws just don't apply any more, if they don't like them.

Then McCarthy purposely sabotaged the House investigative committee by submitting Rep Jordan as a member when he KNEW that Jordan had a conflict of interest and would be called as a witness by the investigators....McCarthy KNEW Pelosi would reject Jordan and the other guy from the get go, before he submitted them for the committee, which would give him his second chance at pulling out, from a second investigation on what happened on 1/6.....
He planned all along, to call any investigation in to 1/6, illegitimate..... It's a Trumper M/O!

The House rules gave the house speaker the right to object picks on certain grounds. Pelosi legitimately followed the house rules on select committee that McCarthy himself set up for Select Committees and picks.
McCarthy then under the existing rules that McCarthy set up for the select committee on Benghazi, allows McCarthy to pick replacements for those rejected by the Speaker. 3 of McCarthy picks were accepted, and the 2 rejected for their conflict of interests, McCarthy could replace.
McCarthy didn't want the investigation from the beginning, so he used this as an excuse to pull out and claim the select committee as illegitimate....fake, a hoax, the deep state....you know, the usual suspects of the right wing....

In law, the prosecutor owns the case, not the person pressing charges. The prosecutor can decide to prosecute, or not to prosecute, and the person pressing charges has no sway over that decision.Yet you didn't address the fact they requested it.
