Some reports indicate they had no intention of beating Hamas. It’s possible they knew they couldn’t beat them before 10/7 occurred. Their intention from the beginning was likely genocide and complete removal of Palestinians from Gaza.

Remember the reports of flooding Hamas‘ underground tunnels with sea water? Why didn’t they do this, which would have made sense? Focus on destroying Hamas rather than mass murdering civilians and destroying everything above ground. This seems a good indicator of their intentions.
