AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts says there's a report of one or two possible "hostile armed" people at a dormitory on its Amherst campus and is ordering people to shelter in place.

The university says on its website campus police have secured a perimeter around Pierpoint Hall.

The university said the suspect is a white male wearing a dark shirt and a gold chain. Officials believe a second white male wearing a gray sweatshirt may also be involved.

A shelter-in-place order at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst has been lifted, the university said on Twitter.

"Shelter in place order HAS BEEN LIFTED. Please resume normal activities," the Tweet read. "Additional information will be provided by UMass email."

The order was issued after a report of a "hostile armed person" somewhere on campus earlier this evening.
