Walmart says tax bill allowed raise hikes

Any of you ever run a business with employees? You get what you pay for.

P.S. Walmart is closing Sam's Club stores because Costco is kicking their butts.

......AND, you want to know why COSTCO is kicking Sam Club's butt??????

The average wage at Costco is $17 an hour. Wal-Mart does not break out the pay of its Sam's Club workers, but a full-time worker at Wal-Mart makes $10.11 an hour on average, and a variety of sources suggest that Sam's Club's pay scale is similar to Wal-Mart's.

I'm not a member of either but I have read over the years that Costco is one of the highest worker-satisfaction employers in business. And it's confirmed by people I know working there. Trader Joe's is another. Happy employees are productive employees.

Always watch what the other hand is doing.

-- and laying off well over a thousand workers IIRC.

Hmm...evidently someone doesn't have a clue how businesses run.

I found a Walmart webpage from January of 2016, where Walmart pledges to raise its minimum wage to $11 an hour. And this was nearly a year before Trump was nominated and elected. Now they’re trying to give Donnie something to cheer about but it had nothing to do with Trump or his tax cut. This is just a continuation of the program announced in January 2016

Trader Joe's is a favorite of mine, I love the ever changing Wine selection.

and how can costco kick their butts when they pay employees a 50% higher wage than walmart/sam's club pays their employees?

The Real Reason Walmart Raised Its Minimum Wage

but according to the liberal media, Democrats are the REAL behind the scenes heroes
There is no ‘liberal media.’

In fact, there is no ‘the media.’

‘The media’ do not exist as a single entity pursuing some collective goal or agenda – the notion is a ridiculous rightwing lie.

‘The media’ are interested in one thing and one thing only: profits.

And they pursue profits regardless of ideology.

Last, the Republican tax scam hasn’t gone into effect yet – Walmart raised wages having nothing to do with the measure.

From your linked article:

“Republicans did promise that the tax cut would put more money in worker pockets. But the mechanism of that enrichment was not really supposed to be a one-for-one transfer of money from the government to workers, using corporations as an intermediary. Rather, corporations are supposed to grow their businesses, making workers more productive, and increasing demand for labor, which will eventually translate into higher wages.

Obviously, there hasn’t been any time for any of that to happen yet.” ibid

Obviously.

It is rather amazing how easily right wing Americans are so easily fooled.

Walmart is "praising" Trump for giving its workers a raise (while shutting down over 60 stores...Sam's Club)

Here's a dose of reality and YOU tell us if Walmart needed a "tax cut":

How much does Walmart make a year in profits? With fiscal year 2016 revenue of $482.1 billion,

and YET,

Walmart Workers Cost Taxpayers $6.2 Billion In Public Assistance

Wow, and somewhere you got the impression wages should only be raised every...what? 5years, 10 years. Going back to the original article on this thread, it specifically says:
“Walmart workers” used to be a handy synonym for “low-paid.” But over the past few years, the company has steadily raised the wage it offers its lowest-paid employees, and it has now announced that base pay will go up again, to $11 an hour.

The link you posted indicates:
  • All associates hired before Jan. 1, 2016 will earn at least $10/hour.
  • New entry-level associates will continue to start at $9/hour and move to at least $10/hour after successfully completing the company’s new retail skills and training program known as Pathways.

Do you actually read any of the links or just react?

Where does the post you quoted say anything about what "should" happen?

Do you actually read the posts you quote or do you just make it up out of what you'd like it to have said?

DOOD. You did the exact same thing with my statistics, rambing on and on about "how other businesses work" in an incoherent spray of pointlessness.

and how can costco kick their butts when they pay employees a 50% higher wage than walmart/sam's club pays their employees?

1. Do you know the difference between an average wage at Costco and a starting wage at Wallmart?

2. Do you know that Costco competes with Sam's Club, not Wallmart?

3. Do you know that Costco has superior merchandising and and a much larger online presence than Sam's Club?

I didn't think so.

Yes, it also said on the way to $13.33 in future years. The recently announced raises are a continuation of the policy implemented in 2016 - long before Trump.

They did raise their wages in 2016. But if you read the link, it lays out a series of increases one of which is $11 in 2017. So they’re on track with that.

But in announcing or rather re-announcing the increase to $11 per hour, Walmart also announced closing several stores with the loss of 1,000 jobs. This pertains to higher online sales.
