This is horrifying. It is barbaric. It should not be a thing that young girls of any culture should ever have to endure.

And there is no excuse for it, so let’s not start kvetching about insensitivity to other cultures.

What I’m referring to, specifically, is female genital mutilation (FGM), and it was a topic Wednesday night on Tucker Carlson’s Fox News program.

Carlson interviewed an anthropologist by the name of Fuambai Ahmadu, who was voluntarily mutilated.

TAKING OVER THE WEST WHEN DO YOU THINK IT WILL SINK INTO THE NATIONS IDIOTS.

I do not support the taking away of pleasure from women....

Most liberals don't as we're not religious fascist.

Hey some religions believe in it, like the Jews believe in sucking circumcision, yes grown men who cut and suck the blood of baby boys penises , I guess anything goes now that Trump has signed more power for freedom of religion.

That is taking away pleasure from men. I guess Mormons should be allowed polygamy.

Anything goes.

Most Conservatives don't support FGM either Matthew, this heinous and wicked crime isn't a political issue.

Some things are sans politics, FGM is one of them, paedophilia is another of them and cruelty to animals is another of them and regardless of political persuasion these are at least some issues that we can all agree about.

Two sisters die after undergoing FGM in Somalia, campaigner says

Fri September 14, 2018 - Two sisters have died in Somalia from complications that arose after undergoing female genital mutilation, according to Hawa Aden Mohamed, who campaigns against the procedure.
Ten-year-old Aasiyo Abdi Warsame and her sister, Khadijo, 11, died a day after they were subjected to the procedure in the remote village of Arawda in Puntland State on September 11, said Aden Mohamed, director of the Somalia's women's rights group Galkayo Education Center for Peace and Development. According to Aden Mohammed, the sisters were cut the same day by a local circumciser. They continued bleeding 24 hours after the procedure, and died while their mother was taking them to a health center, Aden Mohamed said. "Unfortunately, they never made it to the hospital as they all died on the way," said Aden Mohamed, who has been calling for legislation banning the practice commonly done on young girls in Somalia. The sisters' death comes two months after Somalia's government vowed to pursue a landmark prosecution in the case of a 10-year-old girl who died after female genital mutilation, a practice that is legal in the country.

Deeqa Dahir Nuur died two days after she was subjected to one of the most extreme forms of female genital mutilation, according to doctors who tried to save her after she suffered complications from the procedure performed by a local cutter in another village in Somalia on July 17. Aden Mohamed, a survivor of the procedure, said young girls continue to bear the consequences of the practice because of the government's reluctance to pass anti-female genital mutilation laws. "It is another sad story coming even before the dust settles and action is taken in the Deeqa case. Yet there seems to be reluctance in discussing and passing the anti-FGM law," she said. "We hope that this will serve as a wake-up call for those responsible to see the need to have the law in place to protect girls from this heinous practice," Aden Mohamed added.

In Somalia, 98% of women between the ages of 15 and 49 have been cut, the highest rate in the world, according to United Nations statistics. The report said around 200 million girls and women in the world are affected by the practice. Female genital mutilation involves the altering or removing of the female genitals, such as the clitoris or labia. The procedure can cause severe bleeding and health issues including infections and infertility, as well as complications in childbirth. The practice is recognized internationally as a violation of the human rights of girls and women, but remains widespread in Somalia, where more than half the female population believe it should not be abolished.

Burkina Faso botched FGM leaves 50 girls in hospital
17 September 2018 - Around 50 girls are being treated in hospital in Burkina Faso after botched circumcisions, or female genital mutilation (FGM), a minister says.
Not all girls who underwent the circumcision have been traced, Minister of Women's Affairs, Laurence Marshall Ilboudo, said. Two 60-year-old women, along with the parents of some of the girls, have been arrested. FGM has been illegal in Burkina Faso since 1996. Offenders face up to three years in prison. About three-quarters of women and girls in Burkina Faso have undergone circumcision, but only 9% favour the practice, according to UN children agency Unicef.

The circumcisions took place in the Kaya area, about 100km (60 miles) north of the capital, Ouagadougou, between 4 and 6 September. Some of the victims are as young as four years, authorities say. A dozen girls have been admitted to the Kaya Regional Hospital and 38 to the Chiphra Protestant Hospital in the capital. Some of the girls had suffered serious complications, Dr Dieudonne Ouedraogo told the BBC.

Female genital mutilation

Includes "the partial or total removal of the female external genitalia or other injury to the female genital organs for non-medical reasons"
Practised in 30 countries in Africa and some countries in Asia and the Middle East
An estimated three million girls and women worldwide are at risk each year
About 125 million victims estimated to be living with the consequences
It is commonly carried out on young girls, often between infancy and the age of 15
Often motivated by beliefs about what is considered proper sexual behaviour, to prepare a girl or woman for adulthood and marriage and to ensure "pure femininity"
Dangers include severe bleeding, problems urinating, infections, infertility and increased risk of childbirth complications and newborn deaths
