As someone who lives in New York, I can tell you that you don't wanna touch this place with a ten foot pole. It smells bad, the people are ill mannered, it's noisy, it's crowded, it's expensive as shit and worst of all our mayor is a fucking loser. Also parking is impossible, traffic can be awful, and overall you'd just be better off somewhere rural.
