It's not even a choice to good people. It's a natural instinct. There are condoms for birth control.

It would take an act of the Utah legislature for me to find my biological mother

That's a nice story and I'm glad that you were fortunate to have that love and consideration. But until fairly recently it was illegal to abandon your baby at a hospital doorstep or a fire station. Now that has changed at least where I live and young girls do not have to fear dropping their kids off because they had the courage to bring their child to term. So my point is that there is not always a sweet story behind child abandonment and can be complicated by where you live and by the people who are in charge.
