Talk about avoiding the topic at hand. We’re not denying racism exists. But you can’t just label someone “racist” without something to back it up. Was the cop a KKK member? Were there lots of complaints from other officers? Does his Facebook page she him posting racist stuff? Anything? That’s all I am asking.I've communicated with many Trumpsters here who, in fact, do deny the existence of racism.I think we probably need to come to the conclusion that (a) there is a portion of the populace that is going to deny that racism still exists no matter what, and that (b) they're just not going to be a part of any conversation that leads to an improvement in the situation.
And really, that's okay. As long as they're around, they can be used as a barometer of how much work still needs to be done.
This is why freedom of expression is so critical. The country needs to know these people are still out there, and who agrees with them.
Nobody is questioning the existence of racism, most certainly not me, an Asian man, but the OP is correct. To this day there is ZERO evidence George Floyd's killing was racially motive and not a single person can prove it is because there is literally nothing to indicate that other than his skin color and that of his murderer. This has been an assumption from day one and if we had a responsible media and responsible politicians they would have never allowed that narrative to dominate, but I personally think some of them are reveling in this chaos.
There are bad cops out there and they sometimes kill people, ALL people, not just the black ones. This is not a black lives matter issue; it's a civil rights issue for all Americans.
Unless and until those people are publicly held accountable by the Right and fully marginalized, they will continue to give the Left an easy target.
All these news outlets, even Fox News, just states it was racist as a matter of fact, with zero evidence the man is a racist. He is a cop in Minneapolis, with a large black population to begin with. The fact that blacks commit crimes at twice the rate as others, easily makes it likely that cops have to deal with a violent black person at least 50% of the time when arriving on a scene to deal with a crime in progress call. Did he seek out a black “victim”? He was no doubt dealing with black violent thugs every day.
