This is not about prior generations, you have been shown an example of that. Whites today benefit from what happened in prior generations. This thread is not about reparations nor am I going to allow it to be derailed by having a conversation on reparations. This thread is about what whites can do to end racism in their communities.
When you say things like this and I quote you:This is not about prior generations, you have been shown an example of that. Whites today benefit from what happened in prior generations. This thread is not about reparations nor am I going to allow it to be derailed by having a conversation on reparations. This thread is about what whites can do to end racism in their communities.
"I'm fine with your essay. But the issue of reparations goes beyond slavery and it is not about what YOU/YOUR FAMILY did or did not do. And the Irish participated in discrimination against blacks. All the examples you make are not equivalent to what blacks endured. The only other group with a similar claim are native Americans and congress provides them money every year and will do so until the end of days. This is a case against the government that made the laws that allowed the atrocities to happen and the system that continues to maintain it." . . . it is difficult to believe that you aren't suggesting black people are entitled to compensation.
The government forced the Native Americans to live on reservations and that is why they get government money every year. The government did them no favors with that system whatsoever. A one time reparation for those living who were affected by it back then could have been appropriate maybe and then eliminate the reservations, give each family an opportunity for a few acres or whatever, but they would then become mainstream Americans.
For at least some of the blame, you can take it up with the self-proclaimed social reformers that tore apart black communities, bussed kids into different schools, forced them into the projects, discouraged marriage or the father staying home with their welfare programs, and rewarded single parents which, coupled with substance abuse, is the number one cause of child poverty in America today.
As long as these self-proclaimed social reformers look to cries of RACISM and presumed white guilt and black victimhood that forces separation of people based on the color of their skin, and the whole PC schtick to keep themselves employed and the money flowing in, everybody is FORCED to consider color of skin first. A common sense goal would be to put all that back into Pandora's box and instead focus on a world in which skin color becomes of no more importance than hair color or eye color.
