"In other words, the nationalised companies will be returned to their former private owners (including telecommunications, electrical, SIDOR, cement, etc), as will expropriated landed estates. It is noteworthy that there is a lot of talk of property and business rights, but no mention is made of workers' rights, which would certainly be abolished. It continues:

"'Public companies will be subject to a restructuring process that ensures their efficient and transparent management, including through public-private agreements.'"

"What this means, in plain language, is massive dismissal of workers from state companies and the entry of private capital into them: a policy of looting which has already proved to be a disaster in all countries where it has been applied."
The only "aggression" against Chile was by Allende and his communist Cuban thugs. Another Pinochet is exactly what Venezuela needs. Chile became one of the wealthiest and most free countries in Latin America thanks to Pinochet.

Word for Word/Kissinger on Pinochet; The Human Rights Crowd Gives Realpolitik the Jitters

"The realpolitik approach Mr. Kissinger favored was enunciated at an Oct. 1, 1973, meeting with officials from the Latin American division of the State Department. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Jack Kubisch had arrived bearing news that at least 2,700 people were killed during the coup and expressing concern that the United States appeared too close to the Pinochet regime.

"Secretary Kissinger: I agree that we should not knock down stories that later prove to be true, nor should we be in the position of defending what they're doing in Santiago. But I think we should understand our policy -- that however unpleasant they act, the government is better for us than Allende was. So we shouldn't support moves against them by seemingly disassociating."

Why do you suppose capitalists are always willing to resort to violence when faced with real competition?

Capitalists I have known seem to find it impossible to wrap their minds around the idea that a market which distributes goods and services on the sole basis of ability to pay makes the concept of "voluntary transactions" almost comical.

Allende was a thug. The Congress of Chile wanted him gone and the people of Chile wanted him gone, but he refused to leave. He was about to impose a Cuban style dictatorship. The people who were killed were Cuban thugs are their traitor allies. Good riddance to them.

The minute you start quoting a Maoist like Chomsky, you've lost me.

Any rational person should be very afraid of Socialism. It's just the rebranding of the standard form of human organization: Feudalism with a few wealthy (mostly hereditary) elites on top who control and feed off of the labor of the masses of poor, subsistence level serfs.

These 'isms' are used pretty loosely but I'm sure they all have good and bad features in them. What is it when the everything blows up and the government steps in and bails out the capitalists, bankers, wall street etc. ? Or when our big corporations want to do business in foreign countries like for example, the oil companies in the middle east. They get Uncle Sam's military to protect them and even start wars for them. Huge costs in money and American lives. Another subsidy for big oil. Always socialism for the wealthy and influential but help the little guy out and the 'conservatives scream 'this is socialism and it's bad, bad bad and takes away the little guy's incentive to work!!

Maybe because they don't have a federal reserve and a big government to bail them out like we do when everything goes to hell in a hand basket here, maybe?
