Why America needs guns

`
I use guns; a) To hunt, b) to shoot varmints like squirrels, rabbits, sea gulls, etc and c) since I have a CCL, I occasionally carry one to certain urban areas.
`

Shooting seagulls is a federal offense. I hope you get busted.

..Chicago has a much lower murder rate than VERY pro-gun Stl MO

You have been shown over and over the reason St. Louis has such a high gun murder rate....and it has nothing to do with law abiding gun owners, and everything to do with democrat party control of the city....and their policy of ignoring and releasing violent gun criminals.....

The democrats in St. Louis are actually fighting against increasing he prison sentences for violent gun criminals.......that is the problem, not law abiding gun owners....you know this, you are pretending you don't know it....

Rise in Murders Has St. Louis Debating Why

Jennifer M. Joyce, the city’s circuit attorney, or prosecutor, an elected position, complains that in St. Louis, the illegal possession of a gun is too often “a crime without a consequence,” making it difficult to stop confrontation from turning lethal.

At the same time, deeper social roots of violence such as addiction and unemployment continue unchecked. And city officials also cite what they call a “Ferguson effect,” an increase in crime last year as police officers were diverted to control protests after a white officer shot and killed Michael Brown, an unarmed black teenager in the nearby suburb on Aug. 9.

-----------

Now, an overstretched department is forced to pick one neighborhood at a time to flood with officers. Last month, Chief Dotson even asked the state highway patrol if it could lend a dozen men to help watch downtown streets; the agency declined.
----
When the police discover a gun in a car with several passengers, including some with felony records, but no one admits to owning the gun, criminal charges are often impossible, Mr. Rosenfeld said.

In addition, according to a 2014 study by Mr. Rosenfeld and his colleagues, a majority of those who are convicted of illegally possessing a gun but not caught using it in a crime receive probation rather than jail time. Gun laws and enforcement are stiffer in many other cities.

Violence down in St. Louis but homicides hold steady. Are tougher penalties for gun crimes the answer?

But many challenges remain, official said. The department is still down more than 130 officers. Witnesses to crimes remain reluctant to come forward for fear of retaliation, making it difficult to close cases. And a lack of state laws to deter gun crimes has forced the police to turn to federal courts to indict some suspects.

On Tuesday, Edwards made a new pitch: He wants to see the mandatory minimum sentence for armed criminal action raised from its current ceiling of three years to at least 15 years for nonfatal shootings, and 25 years for fatal shootings.

The "loss of human life" is NOT the greatest 'imperative' here! "if it saves even one life" mantra, is horse shit, and pales in comparison to an armed citizenry acting as a safe guard against gov. overreach, oppression & machinations of tyranny! (are the tens of thousands that died in securing our personal freedoms not worthy of consideration, posthumously here;... or just the hypothetical postulations that an unarmed citizenry might contribute to less loss of life (whether that's even true of false doesn't even matter)...
people ALWAYS bring up Chi as pro-gun argument because it has so many murders
ridiculous since STL murder rate is much higher
...why don't they bring up STL?

Because Chicago is a major city...that's why.

are you saying saving one life is not worth it? ?

No.....but if saving one life is worth it, then you guys need to support gun ownership...as the CDC points out, Americans use their legal guns 1.1 million times a year to stop rapes, robberies and murders....far more lives are saved by Americans with guns than are taken by crimnials with guns...

So if saving one life is the measure of success you need to push more gun ownership, not gun confiscation...

Chi-Town is our third largest city. Their number of murders exceeds those of New York and Los Angeles combined.

As you know, there are two distinct "cities" within Chicago. The North Side, relatively murder free, and the South Side, a war zone.

Who runs these cities?

here Chi is # 25--not the same as your list
The 30 cities with the highest murder rates in the US

WHat you don't seem to understand is that the murder rate for the entire country is skewed by the the murder rates of very distinct and very small areas in just 5% of all the counties in the country. These areas are all poverty and crime ridden inner city neighborhoods

We do not have a gun problem in this country we have a cancer in our cities
