I like the actual radios myself. They became useless when everybody started going digital. A good digital scanner is around $500.00. The radios have better sound quality than apps and sites. Sometimes it's tough understanding what they're talking about. I'm just too cheap to spend that kind of money on a radio.

Hell, everything's still analog here. Hardly any trunked systems, unless you go the Milwaukee or Madison.

It was already explained to you by others in this thread. You can open a live scanner on your phone and just have it around. You can carry on with whatever you are doing and feeds just come through. NO, you don't sit and wait. How is it you don't understand the concept? I think you are trying to play games.

I need to know how it helps you to discern reality.

Does it whisper “truth” to you after the president speaks for example?

I only listen to our police department combined with our neighboring suburb. I don't know why a dispatcher would lie to cops or the cops lie to the dispatcher.

We have our fair share of crime here and you never know when suspects are near your home unless you're listening to what's going on. About a year ago a gas station got robbed near my home. When I heard the call I looked out the window in my yard and all my motion detector lights were on. Not that it's unusual with all the deer we have running around. But I called the non-emergency number to report it anyhow and gave the police my permission to search the property if need be. They came out and did it too.

Be ready because it's coming. Digital happened almost overnight here. I ended up throwing away a good scanner. It was a Bearcat. Worked for 15 years with no problems.

Which feeds tell you the truth about what the media is reporting?

In my example (a local fire or emergency) a scanner will give you real time information. Local media uses scans to create their filtered stories. If you're looking for a 'feed' to tell you the truth about political issues, I can't help you with that.

I remember when I got my first scanner. Back then cordless phones were kind of new. What I found is they too were low frequency and there were only 10 channels they used at the time. So I looked up the frequency of all the base units of cordless phones and punched all 10 into the scanner. Oh what a party that was listening to your neighbors and people in the area when things were slow on police calls.

People had no idea how easy it was to listen to their calls. I used to have people over for parties and we'd turn it on. We'd bust out laughing at some of the shit we heard. It was better than the television.

With Trump I figured it's because he's currently focused more on starting his campaign, but the fact that I haven't heard anything big from the left right now, especially with Christmas coming and our current fuel shortage scares me. At least I haven't seen anything new from them and maybe it's just me.

The left hates Christmas and certainly doesn't want you to know there is a fuel shortage. IOW, according to the MSM, there are no scoops like that, only scoops on celebrity rumors, Trump rumors, etc.
