There is only one reason that NATO 5.56mm rounds exists. In the Military Doctrine it states that the military must maim a certain amount of people. Now I find this unethical, this forces the unnecessary risk of medics and other militant personnel. This mentality is almost like torture it's like saying "Don't kill them just hurt them enough to force them to risk more lives and resources". Now countries like Russia who use the 'AK' series and 7.62mm rounds don't sign on to this. The 7.62 is almost a guaranteed kill to the chest or abdomen yet is less accurate so it's more of a hit/miss type deal (yeah its morbid but less so than purposely maiming/torturing someone). If we all used the 7.62mm round war would be quicker and cleaner with less horrible injuries. I may sound like a hippie in saying this but I mean come on should we try to make war more gory or cleaner and faster with less overall bloodshed. I don't know if I'm the only one in this mindset but please share your opinions.
