Well actually, GOP Senator Lamar Alexander said the Democrats presented an overwhelming case.
He just said that shaking down a foreign leader to subvert an America presidential election didn't rise to the level of being removed from office.
GOP Senator Joni Ernest also said Trump was wrong.

So even Republicans thought Trump was wrong.

But that's why they wanted to get it over with.

For the first impeachment trial in American history, and there have been 15 in the US Senate, no witnesses were called. All the previous trials had an average of 33 witnesses. This was the first one ever without witnesses or documents.

The real question here is "was what Trump did bad enough to be removed from office?"

President Trump got impeached for doing his job, perfectly, by exposing American's 2014-'16 corruption in Ukraine. He did his job. Period. Our foreign policy in Ukraine did not say that Trump can't expose corrupt Dems.

The reason why the Constitution is so severe on foreign influence in US domestic affairs is because when the Constitution was written, the US had just declared independence from the British Empire. The British Empire was the biggest the world had ever seen. North America, India, China, Australia, colonies in South America and Africa and more.

The founders were terrified the British would return. All they way up until the 1800's.

So in the constitution, seeking foreign interference in elections or whatever is grounds for removal.

It's a different time now. Republicans feel if foreign interference can help them politically, that help isn't all that bad.

Remember what Alan Dershowitz said during the trial. That if the president believes his re election was good for the nation, it's OK to get help from anyone. That he can do what ever it takes. Because the president feels it in the nation's best interest. No matter what crime he may commit.

The Dems feel that far, far more than Republicans do.

That is proven by how hard Ukraine GOVT officials stealthily pushed for Hillary to win in 2016. Facts don't lie about Ukraine's anti-Trump movement during 2015-'16. And it's also proven by Joe Biden's actions with his son Hunter, from 2014-'16.

And you are being dishonest about Prof. Dershowitz. That is not what he said, so please edit your post because there's no need to help deceitful Dems. The entire time Dershowitz has laid out, what a President can be impeached for ---so it's not possible that he said a President can get help from anyone nor can do anything in the best interest of being reelected.
