I don't recall deeming him unqualified. Perhaps you have a quote to refresh my memory.

Garland has been termed a moderate/liberal by the press. I myself do not in this day and age believe such things exist.

That said, I have no particular problem with the man, I would simply prefer someone with a strong originalist/textualist POV to replace Scalia, and also the same applied to the two or three other nominations Trump is likely to enjoy within his term.

He wouldn't be any more-or-less fake than whoever else is appointed later on since Congress had plenty of time to reject his nomination if he wasn't qualified. So I think it is strictly Obama's call.
