It is a non-issue....however...to comment on the OP's question: because they are pompous media whores who will do just about anything to stay in the limelight.
Sure, they probably convinced themselves that they wanted to show "how good Cuban people are" and that this trip was anything other than a self-promoting photo shoot...but obviously that was the intent judging by the large flock of invited and government sanctioned photographers all over the place.
The Cuban government used them, and the couple used the Cuban people to promote themselves.

Indeed...a non-story except for the Entertainment Tonight fans.
