Humans have NEVER been civilized. As a species, of course, we have had civility, but as a whole, we are not civilized.

I've seen bad guys do good and the "good guys" do the worst. Nobody is going to convince me that the world isn't a whole lot of grey.

Sorry but not true. Some humans have a history of building beautiful civilizations within which individuals can flourish and advance. Thats civilization. Civilization isnt a synonym for "good". Civilization is good but to say a particular group of humans is civilized is not to say they dont do wrong and to point out they do wrong at time sis not to say they arent civilized.
