Rapper 50 Cent Files for Bankruptcy

Curtis James Jackson III, the rapper better known as 50 Cent, filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Monday.

In court papers filed in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Hartford, Conn., Mr. Jackson reported assets and debts each in the range of $10 million to $50 million.

The attorney listed on the bankruptcy petition couldn’t immediately be reached for comment Monday.

The filing comes days after a jury directed Mr. Jackson to pay $5 million to a woman who sued over a sex tape, the Associated Press reported.

Saw a 30 on 30 ESPN documentary recently about well-known athletes who made millions who are now broke, or nearly so. Some big name NFL, MLB, NBA, etc. stars we all know and many of their stories about just pissing money away were unbelievable, as in unbelievably stupid.

Some examples...Evander Holyfield built a 50,000+ sq. ft. home that among other things had two bowling alleys. Not an alley with two lanes, but two separate alleys in different parts of the house!...Andre Rison (former NFLer) talked about literally throwing money away at various nightclubs. Making it "rain" by tossing big wads of bills into the air, started with 5s, 10s in the early days but escalated to 100s as the various pro athletes, entertainers, etc. attending tried to outdo each other. He also mentioned the off the field competition among teammates, once buying a new Ferrari to show off in the team parking lot. He bought it because it was a new model and the first one with steering wheel mounted paddle gear shifters, something he could brag about that no other team member could match.

Lots of other examples and they tend to rerun the 30s frequently if anyone's interested.

Can't imagine what it must feel like to be broke in one's late 30s, early 40s, and realize if you'd just managed your money you could have retired to a nice lifestyle and never have to work another day the rest of your life, but instead you're stuck working some bullshit job now just to get by.
