67 Years young-RIP Mr. Newman RIP...

Mad was subversive stuff in the late fifties through mid sixties and then leftist-hippy reality came along and made Mad obsolete.

The intro to the 1969 TV show ‘Then Came Bronson’ has Bronson on his motorcycle at a red light, smoking a cigarette and a salesman in a parallel car asking him enviously if he’s taking a trip and where he’s going. Bronson replies ‘Wherever I end up.’
In MAD’s version, ‘There Goes Bumsome’, when the salesman asks him if he’s taking a trip, Bumsome replies, ‘No, this is just a regular cigarette.’

Man we use to read the hell out of them and Cracked back in the day.
Loved them.
Cracked was far inferior to MAD, both in writing and artwork. But when they began their internet presence, Cracked ruled their niche. They really nailed it.
Oh absolutely. Cracked was not as good as MAD. But...it was still readable.
And neither are remotely as good as The Far Side...now that was a big loss.

The Far Side is a national treasure.
