Well..not exactly. I mean, it’s not a fairy tale. I actually know someone who went to Tijuana to have a gastric bypass..or one of those kinds of surgeries, because their insurance here in the states wouldn’t cover it.
$5000 plus the cost of a plane ticket got them a ride across the border into Tijuana, a stay for 2 days at the hotel, plus the cost of the surgery.
Yes, it is risky, because if there are any complications, your insurance company here may not cover it because the procedure was done out of country, but so far, they haven’t had any issues and everything seems to be working ok.
The point is, medical tourism isn’t a fairy tale, it’s a problem with our medical industry and pricing that has gotten out of hand.
Someone please explain why to get a weight loss surgery in America, it can cost you up to $20,000, but down in Mexico, it can go as low as $5000…do we not have the same technology here in the states? Are we not advanced enough to be able to do that procedure. Of course we are, the problem is all the subsidies, red tape, bureaucracies, and lack of competition in America.
Seems like a lot of medical procedures are cheap in Mexico…..but here, most are prohibitively expensive.
