A great advert for Socialism

It seems quite appropriate in Norway where the countries assets are being used to provide a better life for ALL Norwegians.

By buying into the capitalism they refuse to simply allow Norwegians to have themselves. Brilliant strategy.
How are Norwegians restricted from engaging with capitalism ?
Do you know anything about anything ?

Um, they live in a socialist society? That's like asking how people in Hog Wallow, West Virginia are restricted from eating Mexican food. BECAUSE THERE ISN'T ANY.

Thanks for that.

I guess that is why there isnt a Norwegian Stock Exchange.

Or any companies traded on that exchange.

You are as dumb as fuck.

At what point did capitalism become defined as "having a stock exchange"?

And didn't you start all this by singing the praises of Norway and its socialism? But now you're frantically trying to tell us that it's capitalist, which you consider a bad thing?

I guess you'd be the resident expert on "dumb as fuck". I bow to your superior knowledge and expertise in that area.
You continue to embarrass yourself.

I think its because you do not understand that there is a difference between socialism and communism. And of course you are really stupid.

Perhaps you could school me by pointing out a capitalist country that doesnt have a stock exchange ?

I haven't embarrassed myself yet. You continue to mistake your approval for something I would ever want or care about.

I haven't actually said anything about communism, or even socialism really. I've just pointed out that you're touting socialism as better than capitalism based on the fact that your dream socialist utopia du jour is using capitalism to fund itself. So I'm at a loss to understand how you figure I'm confusing socialism and communism without making any statements about either. Or I would be at a loss, if I actually gave a shit.

Ditto for understanding why you think "capitalism isn't defined as having a stock exchange" is somehow an acceptance of that premise and a willingness to argue about it as though I accept it.

Are you aware that virtually nothing you say makes any sense?

You do not understand that socialism and capitalism can co-exist.

You claim that Norwegians cannot engage with capitalism because "Um, they live in a socialist society"

I have just schooled you on this.

My advice to you is this - "Hush child, you do not have the knowledge to contribute to this discussion."

Yes, the general welfare is Constitutional the general warfare is not. Only the right wing, never gets it.

I've been through this with you at least half a dozen times already. You're wrong, but I'm not wasting any more time on you.
You only have a fallacy of false Cause. Providing for the general welfare is Constitutional.

Providing for the common offense and general warfare is not Constitutional, only the Right Wing, never gets it.

Both affect Individuals.

You do not understand the difference between socialism and communism. You are an ignorant person.

The difference is irrelevant as neither is an appropriate socio-political philosophy on any level.

Just drive over to the next State and ask for a tax break.

The GOP continues to completely miss the sociological aspects of libertarianism and its attending (and inevitable) increasing wealth inequality.

There are enough people who simply won't put up with this for much longer, they vote, and that can lead to knee-jerk reactions.

Why would anyone vote red and not blue? Health care reform and a fifteen dollar an hour minimum wage!

No wonder California is virtually a one party State.

Who wants to vote for a party with nothing but repeal of healthcare reform for the poor, and tax breaks so the already rich, can get richer faster.

YOU do not understand that "can coexist" is not the same as ". . . so it's a good idea".

And you're still trying to pretend we're having a discussion we aren't having, presumably because you simply can't bear to admit that your gleeful bragging about the wonders of socialism went down in the flames of your own ignorant hypocrisy.

I said, and still say, that by choosing to be a socialist society, Norway has, by definition, chosen NOT to be a capitalist society. And since YOU were the one who started all this by rhapsodizing about Norway's socialism, it is as incoherent as everything else you ever say for you to now reverse course and try to maintain how capitalist they are.

I don't personally know much about Norway's economy, because I don't give a shit. YOU brought it up. I just pointed out how hilarious it was that your own argument undercut itself.

There is no number of times you can call me stupid that is EVER going to make people forget how monumentally you fucked your thread up. No diversion or pretense is going to wipe away the fact that you caroled joyously about how superior socialism was without ever noticing that it required eeeeeevil capitalism to prop itself up.

My advice to YOU is this: Don't start talking if you don't have the brains or the sack to handle the response.

I am glad that you now admit that you know nothing about Norway.

To recap, the thread is a celebration of the fact that a country has reinvested its oil revenues to provide a fund that pays its pensions, schools and hospitals.

Its a visionary move and provides a template for the rest of the world.

People from Planet Earth see this as a GOOD THING.

People from the Trump Academy see it as a threat to their "freedumb".

I am laughing at your obtuse non response to being taught something.

Norway's sovereign wealth fund is now worth $1,000,000,000,000

the Norwegians took their oil wealth and invested it in their people.

And now their pensions are fully funded.

Imagine that. A country that works for all its people and not just the few.
Are you familiar with Plato's "Allegory of the Cave?"
Vaguely.
You may want to bone up on it and then apply it to the notion that governments actually do anything good for people in terms of freedom vs shadows.

All attempts by Norwegian left to borrow the money from Oil Fund were rejected so far. People of Norway have learned the lesson from US borrowing from it's Social Security ans spending it on wars and entitlements.

Isn't interesting that country with so much money in pension fund is cca $130 billion in debt?

They are lucky people. Certainly compared to those of us in the UK. Our oil wealth has been squandered on foreign wars and tax cuts for billionaires.

Its not a freedom issue, its an economic issue. Perhaps you can explain how having a fully funded pension diminishes your freedom ?

It is under the control of the government, not the people. How does it NOT reduce the freedom of the people?

It is an illusion to believe that governments are benign.

Freedom to be poor and hungry ? You are crazy ?
There is a clear benefit to the people here. What benefit is there in giving all of this wealth away to corporations ?

Why is this post in the "current events" forum? Because it might last longer and not be subject to political scrutiny? As I recall Norway wasn't doing too well last year when the country decided to invest 70% of it's assets in "equity markets" when the oil industry had problems. It's not hard to find sites that describe Norway's growing poverty class or the quasi monarchy of 10 to 15 powerful families that seem the run the country without benefit of election. The greatest Country in the world , the U.S.A., supports more illegal aliens than the entire population of Norway.

You're nuts. Freedom to be an individual. If you go hungry, that is on you. No one who participates in their life goes hungry in this world. You, people, hate corporations, but here you are advocating for a government, with the full power to kill you, to become a corporation.

You need to have your head examined.
