will he be locked up? an honest mistake?

He should be charged with involuntary manslaughter (woman/personslaughter?), but given a minimal sentence as the grief he is experiencing is almost sufficient punishment.
First time gun owners: Take some safety classes. If you hear someone enter the home, make damn sure that it's not a family member before aiming the firearm in the direction of the person who came in and don't put your finger on the actual trigger until you know it's an intruder.
Also, know the laws in your state about what you are legally allowed to do, should someone enter your home illegally.
Many years ago, my nephew and his wife were sleeping in their upstairs bedroom, when he heard the sound of someone downstairs. He grabbed his pistol, saw two dark figures on the first floor and opened fire, killing one or both (it's been so many years, I've forgotten). Upon the arrival of the police, the couple were found to be two unarmed teenagers one girl and one boy. He was arrested, tried, convicted and sentenced to eight years in the penitentiary. The state's reasons: They were unarmed and were not in the process of actually attacking him. So, it depends upon what state you are in.

As tragic as this is, doesn't it fit the gun control narrative perfectly ?

Dozens of instances of homeowners shooting burglars have happened this year, but this is the only one we hear about.
Oh, did you dig up all the others on your own, Nancy Drew? Or did you hear about them?

We should ask Joe Biden who declared Rittenhouse guilty and baselessly declared him a white supremacist as well before the trial

I mean, why even have a court system?
Of course...deflect to Rittenhouse. What a surprise.

You would think his first reaction would have been to alert and gather up his familly, and try to safely secure them before going after the noise in the garage.

This is the point. The first reaction should be to try and secure your family members. Check if they're in their room, and tell them to hide in the closet if necessary. Also have somebody call 911.

There are around 100 burglaries that result in homicide every year in the United States.

Home invasion murders statistics are actually lower than many people believe. In fact, in many cases, burglars are not armed with guns. Protection against home invasion is one of the reasons that people who own guns buy them.

You have the right to bear arms. But with great power comes great responsibility. You have the responsibility to identify what you're shooting at. And if possible, to make sure any shots that "miss" don't travel in the direction of innocent bystanders.

This send the message that what he did was o.k. A message needs to be sent to make a gun owner think twice, before shooting. We tell carpenters to measure twice, and cut once. You would at least think the same when the consequence isn't just the cost of a piece of wood.

No it hasn't...Why must you anti gun ownership types constantly try and conflate tragedy with the norm of gun owners in this country...?
Yes i'm against "some" gun ownership. Trained responsible people should have guns. It's all the 2nd amendment people who would shoot somebody while cleaning their gun, that shouldn't have them.

If you look at all the hoops you have to go through before you can drive a car in order to keep the public safe. And cars aren't designed to kill people. Yet any yahoo over 18 (21 for handguns) can get an extremely lethal weapon.
