Stop and frisk wasn't a deterrent. It was the penalty, immediately. Stop, frisk, find a weapon. The criminal doesn't get it back. It's immediate that's why it worked.
Life in prison isn't a deterrent. The death penalty isn't a deterrent. If someone serving a life sentence somehow gets mercy and gets out, they almost immediately reoffend. The just know that this time, they won't get caught.
Stop and frisk worked because they not only took away guns from criminals, they were charged with illegally carrying a firearm in public and went to prison for it. Most of them were felons so they got hit with that charge as well. It stopped a lot of them from carrying a gun because it wasn't worth going to prison for just have a gun on them.
Look at NYC under the leadership between Rudy and DeBlazio. Night and day. The difference is one Mayor was pro law and order and the other was pro-criminal. You seen the pictures of those animals dumping buckets of water on top of police and they couldn't do a thing about it. The criminals had the upper hand and used that advantage and still are today.
