I don't NEED to, and I didn't want their involvement at the time. Because I didn't trust them. What I needed was medical attention, and I got it.

And incidentally I got it from a criminal. A fugitive from the law who had been a medic in Vietnam. I trusted him far more than I trusted the police, and that trust was well placed, and here I am.
