America dumbs down

I cannot agree with you on that one, Unkie. Guno has exquisite taste in Classical music. He's hardly average.

The racist, hateful, block-headed little punk is well below average as a human being regardless of what kind of music he likes. Doesn't take a genius to listen to music, champ.

Still such bitter anger.

Is "bitter anger" what drives your blatant racism, punk?

There is a dumbing down of America. It's called Common Core.

Yes. Common Core is the death knell to the education system in America. They know this. That is why they are implementing it. I'm told that Bill and Melinda Gates are driving Main Core. What do you believe their motive is? Any idea?

It's the same motive that drives the rest of the rich socialists. A socialist system where the few rich elite are far removed from the rabble with no way for anyone to rise up and challenge their wealth and power.

SAT scores overlapping with classical music probably has a lot more to do with education level and cultural exposure than raw IQ, and either way it hardly proves an individual poster who likes classical music is more intelligent, anymore than it proves someone who listens to rap is stupid.

To be honest it sounds like a bunch of people trying to prop up their own self-esteem by claiming their music preferences indicate superiority in other natural attributes.

If an affinity for classical music is a sign of intelligence, dogs and cats are the most intelligent species.

That would make those who like rap and hip hop - what?

I believe someone's taste in music is a good indicator of intelligence.

I know that's an illogical conclusion.

that's what happens, historically, every time theocrats start making a huge amount of noise.

Yes. It's a shame public Ed has been taken over by the Secular Church of Big Government.

Jillian has a point, actually. Organized religion restrains people's critical thinking abilities. It closes their minds to asking questions and exploring explanations outside what they're told to believe.

You are correct. Isn't it telling how amazingly accurate that is when you also apply it to the warming alarmists?

No it doesn't. At least not as such a broad generalization.

There is plenty of evidence all around the world that this is very much the case. The Middle East is a stand out example.

Gosh that explains why our kids are so much better educated now....and why none of the top schools of the world are sponsored by the church...and why none of the great thinkers of the world were religious....

OH WAIT!

Where is your evidence that a lack of religion influence in the public school system is directly responsible for the degradation of education quality in the class room?

You're helping prove my point, by the way.

Long ago there was a visitor from another nation who had been given a tour of one of our universities. He noticed the Chapel on campus. What is that for? he asked.

The tour guide replied, That is where the wise men go.

To be fair, he was told the same thing when he asked about the faculty toilet.[/QUOTE ]

That's crap. ( no pun intended )

If the faculty were so wise, Unk, where are the students to prove it? We are falling further and further behind. Universities are 90% liberal faculty according to David Horowitz so how do we explain the trouble with our education system?

All that time in the faculty toilet, they gave it their all, and this is what they produce?

I know for a fact that Disco caused a whole generation of permanently brain damaged kids.

People who haven't read a book in decades are neither smart, nor well educated.

Sorry.

I can't remember the last time I actually sat down and read a book.

I have an Associate's Degree, a Bachelor's Degree, and an MBA. I also have a successful career with a Fortune 100 company and live in one of the more upscale neighborhoods in the Las Vegas Metropolitan area.

Do you still think I'm neither intelligent nor well educated? My employer and friends would disagree.

There is plenty of evidence all around the world to the contrary. Even the Middle East contains ample examples. You might as well say that any form of government restrains critical thinking, or family, or working for a company, or being in a room with even one other person. It's meaningless.

So let's look at this from yet another angle here. The first intellectuals in America were Christians and Jews. These men knew Greek, Latin, many spoke Latin. This goes back to our Founding Fathers and our true history, guys. You could take the most educated student by todays standard and compare him to John Adams and you'd find that the student we call educated by the progressive standards of today would fail to measure up to Adams. Miserably!

Exactly. My major was applied mathematics, minor in Mandarin Chinese, I'm wrapping up career as a software engineer to retire in my 40s, yet have conspiracy theorist religious nutjob Jeremiah trying to link my intelligence to accusations I loathe classical music.

Shallow people try to judge others in the only way they know to think... puddle deep.

I guess that Kosher is talking to me, but I don't know for sure since she is on "ignore". However, I will concede that Kosher is is a position to judge if my daughter is well educated or not, if Kosher ALSO has a Master's degree and is an RN. That would, at least put her on equal footing with my daughter.

First of all, that was kinda sorta supposed to be a joke, ya know?

Secondly, our universities, despite the systematic crushing of any expression of a political position anywhere to the right of Karl himself, are still by far the best in the world. The left is doing its damnedest to undermine it, but the foundation is still strong.

I blame the dumbing down effect on TV and Social Network media. I was raised in an era where one was obligated to entertain himself, instead of being entertained. I have always read for pleasure. I don't even have cable TV. I canceled it about 4 years ago, when I suddenly noticed that I could not find anything more intellectually challenging to watch than "Pawn Stars". I was just in time. After that, they came out with "Duck Dynasty".
