America makes aircraft carriers. China sells stuff…

So true and they are kicking our ass in just about every economic endeavor. We are watching the USA Empire slowly die before our eyes, thanks to our rapacious oligarchs and the politicians they own. Not necessarily a bad thing. A warlike empire needs termination.

They also have 3 aircraft carriers under construction and two completed and in service.
Their first aircraft carrier has problems. If you don't at first succeed, try and try, again. A long journey begins with the first step.
The main problem with it is the fact that using the Ski ramp for take off means they can carry no appreciable weapons load and even require a recuded fuel load. As a result, their fighters are almost useless.

It is not their 'fighters' we have to worry about....it is China's massive arsenal of missles....capable of destroying our Aircraft Carriers.

I haven't seen a demonstration that shows that China can knockout our aircraft carriers with missiles. Carrier groups have massive defenses against missile attacks.

Meh, China's products are crap quality. Second if we cut off their energy supply and they will fold like a cheap lawn chair.
Back in the day, they said the same thing about Made in Japan stuff.
A fourty year old Toyota or Honda (with decent routine maintenance) will run rings around a similar Chevy Malibu

That's exactly right. I have a 2007 Toyota 4runner that I bought new with 2 miles on it. I have 367,000 miles on it now and still runs the same. Same engine and transmission.

Now today we see something very similar....those who cling to the importance of aircraft carriers even though it is known they are very vulnurable to missle attacks.

China can now hold the U.S. Navy’s surface fleet at risk at significant ranges from the mainland. This threat to the U.S. surface fleet continues to grow. China’s anti-surface capability is founded on four developments: (1) the establishment of an increasingly capable long-range maritime surveillance capability designed to detect and track surface ships, (2) the deployment of sophisticated anti-ship cruise missiles and the world’s first anti-ship ballistic missile, (3) the acquisition of strike aircraft with greater range and power, and (4) the deployment of new classes of larger and quieter submarines armed with cruise missiles and torpedoes

NAFTA has nothing to do with the Navy or the military. But no doubt that fact that we guarantee the seas for free trade is a holdover from the Reagan Doctrine. Obviously the Navy was pretty useless in Trump's attempt to bring Jina to heel. It may be good that Biden is not getting in Germany's way to contract with Russia for natl gas, which is a deal neither side can cut off for political reasons without hurting their own economies. OF course, Poland and Ukraine fear Putin. But maybe there's another way to obtain E. Europe stability.
The Navy, in an all out war with China, could literally win the war without using any other branch of military if fully unleashed. The U.S. navy is 6 times the rest of the world's navies... combined.
Isn’t that wonderful? Lol.

Millions of Americans in poverty and many homeless and all without HC, but our navy is 6 times the rest of the world. How cool!
It stems from a lesson learned in WW II.
If Midway would have went differently, the war would have been very different. Japan would have owned the seas for a decade. And surprise attacks on the U.S. western coast would have been unstoppable.
So... U.S. said never again.
If the United States did not have a super military, then someone else would have risen to power. Most of Europe would likely be speaking Russian. And perhaps Russia would also control middle eastern oil.
That’s absurd. Japan never had a chance against us.
well regardless of the soundness, when we embargoed Japan from our steel, and then they were cut off from oil from what was the Dutch East Indies (I think today's Indonesia) we set in place a trade issue. The Navy messed up enforcing it.

Russia is not going to invade Germany even though Germany lacks any defense outside the US. Russia needs German euros for the natl gas. THAT's the issue of Nord Stream 2. But Russia may invade Ukraine again to support ethnic Russians who may feel discriminated or wanting to be part of Mother Russia. I doubt Putin wants to fck with Poland. Maybe we should address how Putin could be deterred without a nuclear exchange.

China may invade Taiwan sometime in the next 50 years. But that's not really a trade issue. I doubt China has any propblem with us spending our dollars to make sure pirates don't mess with their shipping crap they export. What they seem to be up to is taking control of the oceans between them and the Phillapines and encroaching into Vietnamese water. That may be about oil. It is probably also about making sure they can intimidate others to not allow us to take our offshore maftring from China and put it elsewhere, which is one thing Trump toyed with but never really forced.

I don't really have any idea how far China wants to push this. Xi is setting himself up for Maolike Control. That's different from when Nixon opened things up.
The problem with that is the only nation invading other nations these days is the USA. Its more likely our criminal government starts something with China or Russia. They are constantly trying to incite both nations.

We have to test out our new toys.

An aircraft carrier is totally useless because it can never get close enough to the enemy to launch it's jets. However if we keep attacking camels the aircraft carrier is invulnerable
