American Way of Welfare: The Way It Was

10. Not only is respect for religion lacking in contemporary society, but large parts of it have been co-opted by the Left; it comes out as Marxism's recitation of Christianity.

Today the view, sometimes described as "liberation theology," makes the blanket appraisal that God is on the side of the poor. Period. If one self-identifies as poor, one need simply sit back and receive what are called "entitlements," but are actually the redistribution of the nation's wealth.

a. "Take control of and redistribute assets
A heavy progressive or graduated Income Tax
Abolition of all rights of inheritance"
chapter 2 of the Communist Manifesto

11. This is very different from the earlier American view which saw God as backing the mistreated poor, and, in fact, chastising the indolent poor.
a. Proverbs 6:6 Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise!
b. Proverbs 13:4 The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, But the soul of the diligent is made fat.
c. Proverbs 19:15 Laziness casts into a deep sleep, And an idle man will suffer hunger.
d. Proverbs 20:13 Do not love sleep, or you will become poor; Open your eyes, and you will be satisfied with food.
e. Proverbs 21:25 The desire of the sluggard puts him to death, For his hands refuse to work;
f. Proverbs 28:19 He who tills his land will have plenty of food, But he who follows empty pursuits will have poverty in plenty.

The above warnings come from one book.....

Liberation Theology, from another: "The Communist Manifesto," the 1848 publication written by the political theorists Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. Therein the obligation of the poor is simple: revolution.

Religion played it's hand on history and people are turned off by it's many abuses....today's Americans want freedom from religious overtones and condemnation of atheists, Jews, Blacks, Native Americans and homosexuals. To us all we see is hatred backed by a so-called sacred text of mythology..

Need I post the list of the desires of the communist party, to show how just about every one has become the objective/desire of the Liberal/Progressive/Democrat elites?

1. While the United States is one of the few democracies without an official socialist party, in reality socialist occupy some of the highest positions in the “Marxist-socialist” bloc in Congress. In fact, the Congressional Progressive Caucus was founded as a sister to the Democratic Socialists of America, the DSA.

While reading the OP (did you?), did you note the hand that the church played in colonial America? If that is not benevolence, then what "today's Americans" want is sloth.

And are you aware that today's Christians do not condemn atheists, Jews, Blacks, Native Americans, and homosexuals? Or do you think a person is a lifestyle?

Blacks, by the way - Christian blacks - no less make the church the center of their communities than any other community does.

Your excuses, Moonglow, make you a card-carrying atheist and socialist, as atheism and socialism emerge simultaneously.

C'mon.....open your eyes.

Your biggest fallacy is thinking that a progressive is only a democrat, or a liberal, again I shall remind you of one of the first progressives Abe Lincoln. His religious beliefs desired him to outlaw liquor after the war but his assassination stopped that..
but what did start from the group of anti-salooners that were very religious, decided to start the movement that Lincoln had wanted...
later in history we see that before prohibition can be enacted taxes that beer and liquor prived must be replaced, and we have the income tax, women's suffrage and age of consent being raised from 10 to 16 for girls in the USA......
but prohibition did not work......a failed social moral war went down in flames and the religious right have been searching for a way to come back into power, they did, thanks to Ronnie Raygun.....

and that my friends is the rest of the story,

Good day..

I was referring to what religious people have done in the past, and of course what you do in the past has reflections of how people think of you in the present, whether true or not....

They are so radical I think of them on the same level as the LGBT community and their political agenda, their like two screaming bitches fighting in the street over a parking spot..

In the colonial days of our republic most people were farmers. Land was cheap, almost free, and and it was almost difficult to go hungry unless old or disabled. Welfare for those unable to farm or work was the responsiblity of state and county governments. There is a list of abuses by some of those county poor-houses.
As manufacturing replaced farming town-jobs became the norm, but it brought new problems, people depended on a manufacturing job not their farm for their livlihood and with the business-cycles of manufacturing America began to have recession/depressions and unemployed.
In the Great Depression the problem of the unemployed overwhelmed the counties and states and the federal government took on the job of welfare for both businesses and the poor.
A new status emerged in America, the employed and the unemployed. Those with a job felt superior to those without, and the superor person was not a noble or of royalty but one with a job. The usual superior/inferior litany now prevailed, lazy, won't work, live off the dole, etc. One of the great differences with welfare during the Great Depression was the poor had to work for their dole; roads, dams, the land, rural electification and projects improving our intrastructure were built.

Stuff is always "free" when you've stolen it from the natives

Right. Liberation theology is marxism taught in the church. In a nutshell. There are priests & pastors who are part of liberation theology to teach a false gospel and others who will have no part of it. The goal of the communists is to find leaders of the churches who are pro liberation theology. Then they have their front in place to decieve mass amounts of people - the congregations, etc. and spy on real christians which are immediately removed by them once communism takes over that nation. Imagine what would happen if the pope was pro liberation theology. What a prize that would be for the communists.

I believe the coming new world order is the same as the old new world order in Europe before WWII that was emerging. ( communism ) They called themselves progressives back then. That is where the term came from. Anatoli Galitisin - the most valuable Russian KGB defector ( a Major ) warned the CIA that the defectors that came after him were all moles - Anatoli defected in the 60's. He told the CIA that the Russians goal was to rule the world. That was their plan. The CIA dismissed this information and eventually fired James Angle for continuing to warn them they had been infiltrated. Later it was proven true and both Angle and Anatoli received a weak apology.

NOTE*** Anatoli also told them the cold war never ended and that the Russians were planning to destroy the United States. They never changed their plans.

Liberation theology hides itself behind the mask of altruism and compassion. Nothing could be further from the truth. The teachers of liberation theology will use scripture out of context to support their arguement that wealth redistribution is bringing the kingdom of heaven to earth. They have obviously missed scriptures such as each man will plant HIS OWN vineyard .... If a man does not work NEITHER shall he eat... new testament teaching such as this does not appeal to the teacher of liberation theology.

Liberation Theology is Marxism. Marx had no compassion for the poor. That is a myth. Marx didn't attend his own mothers funeral! Nor his wifes! He had no use for anyone but Engels ( whose generosity he lived off of ) and any relative near or far who was about to die - so that he could collect his inheritance. His children commited suicide - one had their spouse join them - his own wife said he was a high priest in satanism - read Marx & Satan by Richard Wurmbrand and you'll find Marx was an exquisitely evil man - his closest friends referred to him as more of a demon than human. Imagine it.

The teaching of communism is a twisted version of the book of Acts. In the book of Acts church members freely donated land, posessions to be shared by everyone. From this commune style movement which became very big in that day - the communists formed their own idea of commune only the community is not a choice. It's forced on you. You are forced to surrender your wealth, home land to be redistributed. ( as is always the case with communists they are playing God ) The apostles lived very impoverished lifestyles. Paul owned one coat. They didn't take the money for themselves and that is where the principle of communism fails. It it is forced on others. The ones in control live like Kings and Queens shamelessly infront of the "serfs"... who get to live on bread and water. The serfs are the 99% and they are the 1%.

In a panoply of stupid posts....this one may just take the cake!

Right wing fiscal policies?????

1. "In fact, since President Obama took office, federal welfare spending has increased by 41 percent, more than $193 billion per year. Despite this government largess, more than 46 million Americans continue to live in poverty. Despite nearly $15 trillion in total welfare spending since Lyndon Johnson declared war on poverty in 1964, the poverty rate is perilously close to where we began more than 40 years ago.

Throwing money at the problem has neither reduced poverty nor made the poor self-sufficient."

Right wing fiscal policies?????

2. "....….the dramatically larger increase also suggests that part of the program’s growth is due to conscious policy choices by this administration to ease eligibility rules and expand caseloads….income limits for eligibility have risen twice as fast as inflation since 2007
and are now roughly 10 percent higher than they were when Obama took office."

3. "..... …the stimulus bill included a provision that created a new “emergency fund” to help states pay for added welfare recipients, with the federal government
footing 80 percent of the cost for the new “clients.”

12. During the mid 19th century, Western culture absorbed a body blow from the growth of materialism, Marxism, which amplified the French Revolution's attempt to displace religion with reason and science.

Of course, the problem for human endeavors is that none of the three, materialism, reason, nor science, are guided by morality.

In the earlier times, as Gertrude Himmelfarb explains:
"There was nothing invidious in being preached to. What was invidious was not being preached to, not having access to the kinds of moral, religious and communal experiences that were a normal part of life for those not so poor as to be deprived of them".

A stark reversal was the result of the new emphasis on materialism, actually producing folks who rail about 'religion being forced down their throat.'

Quite an exaggeration, I believe.

So....when was the path for the poor to move out of dependency more promising.....
....when charity was religiously based...
......or under the food-stamp President?

So you believe SS and Medicare is federal spending? Welfare?

Were you born gullible or does it take practice to get that way?

it is the Left that opposes work requirements. yes the left says republican states asked for the loosening of the work requirement; but they had to deal with the expansion of welfare under obama; and it whole thing wasnt workable. we have RECORD numbers on assistence in obama's 6th year

Who on the left are you speaking of?
