In Alaska Mark "The Boy Senator" Begich has bowed to the inevitable:
Begich concedes after hard-fought Senate battle Alaska Dispatch
"After holding on to dwindling hope for days, Sen. Mark Begich on Monday conceded he had lost his U.S. Senate race to Republican Dan Sullivan."
"With the concession coming nearly two weeks after the Nov. 4 general election and with few votes left to count, the statement was largely a formality."
"The Associated Press called the race nearly a week ago. Soon after, Sullivan attended orientation meetings in D.C. to prepare to take office and voted for Republican leaders in the new Senate majority that takes power in January."
Begich was oft called "Mawk" Begich and sometimes "Mock" Begich. All that rooted in his ancestry. He ran his first campaign calling up the ghost of his father, Nick Begich who had been a U.S. Representative before he disappeared along with Democrat Prince Hale Boggs in a plane somewhere over Prince William Sound decades ago. The mawkish campaign bestowed the first sorbriquet on the wee lad. Then it was noted that his policies and destructive financing while Boy Mayor of Anchorage (Alaska's largest city) made a mockery of his daddy's somewhat conservative economic outlook.
No matter which you prefer - Mawk, Mock, or Markie-Poo, he's toast.
