Every single one of the GOP candidates for President (except Fred Karger) wants a federal amendment to the Constitution to prohibit gays and lesbians from legal, civil marriage. Every single one of the GOP candidates (except old Fred) would repeal DADT.
Surely you've heard the Santorum story haven't you? Do you know why Rick Santorum has a google problem? He equated consenting adult gay and lesbian relationships with "man on dog" sex. Seriously. I'm not kidding....you can't make this stuff up. So then a clever blogger created a web site describing what "Santorum" is. (google it if you REALLY want to know) and it became the top search response when you googled "Santorum".
He's running for President.
You are dead wrong.
Only Santorum wants to repeal DADT and he is an idiot.
Obama opposes gay marriage also so WTF is your point?
Try again but with some facts next time.
You should really get your own facts straight before accusing me of not having mine in order.
We're both wrong...FIVE of the GOP candidates stated that they would re-instate DADT. Santorum, Gingrich, Bachmann, Romney (although he just said he would have kept it in place until the "conflict" was over) and Pawlenty (who is no longer running).
President Obama has NEVER supported an amendment to the Constitution to prevent legal, civil marriage. All the GOP candidates do support such an amendment. Sorry, but the two positions are not conflateable. It is the GOP that is paying $1.5 million dollars to defend DOMA.
NO, YOU are wrong. All those you cite stated they would not have done WHAT OBAMA DID. They stated that they would have allowed the military to do it.
And the damn military wanted it done ANYWAY. Mullen wanted it and Gates wanted it.
Just political speech that was a moot point.
Obama's JD SUPPORTS DOMA.
Your boy Obama has more guts than Clinton but hell, IT IS 20 YEARS LATER.
Gays and lesbians are being used as pawns by Democrats just like blacks were.
Clinton and his DADT was a damn joke. It was BARRY GOLDWATER that first stepped up and supported the repeal of the ban. And he would be a REPUBLICAN.
Bottom line it disappoints me because the repeal came too late. That IS a Federal issue.
Gay marriage is a state issue. Most of the conservatives I know, including those that oppose gay marriage, oppose DOMA on those grounds.
You have the two confused. Completely different jurisdictional law.
