Atheist Governments of the 20th Century: The Death Toll of Godless Goodness

Well it if was a Christian problem, it would be continuing into the 20th & 21st centuries.

Of course it hasn't.

Because it isn't a Christian problem...it's an atheist problem.

"..."the assertion is that religion has caused most of the killing and bloodshed in the world. There are people who make accusations and assertions that are empirically false. This is one of them."[1] Koukl details the number of people killed in various events involving theism and compares them to the much higher tens of millions of people killed under atheistic communist regimes, in which militant atheism served as the official doctrine of the state.[1] It has been estimated that in less than the past 100 years, governments under the banner of communism have caused the death of somewhere between 40,472,000 to 259,432,000 human lives.[2][3][4][5][6][7] Dr. R. J. Rummel, professor emeritus of political science at the University of Hawaii, is the scholar who first coined the term democide (death by government). Dr. R. J. Rummel's mid estimate regarding the loss of life due to communism is that communism caused the death of approximately 110,286,000 people between 1917 and 1987.[8] Richard Dawkins has attempted to engage in historical revisionism concerning atheist atrocities and Dawkins was shown to be in gross error (see also: Atheism and communism and Persecution of Christians in the Soviet Union)."

Every single one of those at some point claimed the church(es) and/or religion was evil.

What do you think would have happened if the medieval Church had had the technology of the world of Orwell's 1984?

Most of them were kept in the dark by a church that didn't provide an English translation of the Bible.

The same thing they have always done...stood up for the oppressed.

Many humans that claim to be religious do not all act righteously to their tenets.
So which is worse?
An Atheist that kills or a religious person?

When atheists consistently kill huge numbers of people, hundreds of millions in a little over 100 years, then I'd say the atheists are worse because obviously there's something about it that lends itself to mass murder.

genocide is the result of IMPOSED IDEOLOGY------whether with or without
GOD (s)------totalitarian utopianism always leads to genocide.....all thru history.
My impression is that communism has petered out. The totalitarian utopian
ideology du jour is ISLAMICISM prophecy of oracle at USMB rosie>>>>
....it's going to get bloodier

You're too stupid to understand, but the atrocities you are hoping to assign to Atheism, as a way to prop your religious fanatacism, were perpetuated by meglomaniacs via a political ideology.

There's that xtian spirit of hate, self-hate and derision.

Speaking of too stupid to understand...

Yeah, speaking of you.

I am going to play devils advocate(Or should it be angels advocate?) here...

It is possible that the people who led Christians to kill and slaughter in the name of church/Christ/God were not actually Christians themselves!

Think about it--where does it say that Jesus explicitly told his followers to kill in his name? Parables do not count since that is telling a story, not an actual command to his followers.

Of course, this is also a sad statement about the ability of Christians to identify one of their own through the word of God. So in short, they are not much different from murderous atheists--except for their obvious hypocrisy of intuiting truth. The "Christian" death tolls demonstrate that they can't.

I always enjoy this bit of rationalization from rabid right wing Christians:

"Christians murdered fewer millions than Atheists!"

I can see why you would be so proud.

The Nazi government was never atheist. They put atheists in death camps. Anyone with a rudimentary knowledge of historical knows that:

"We were convinced that the people need and require this faith. We have therefore undertaken the fight against the atheistic movement, and that not merely with a few theoretical declarations: we have stamped it out."
-- Adolf Hitler, from speech in Berlin (October 24, 1933)
