Occupation impinges on every aspect of Palestinian life

Barriers, closed zones, sealed roads and long detours immiserate day-to-day existence

As Israel marks the 50th anniversary of its occupation of the West Bank, for a third generation of Palestinians the occupation is the only reality they have known.

Since the 1993 Oslo Accords, the Palestinian Authority has controlled territory comprising 11 per cent of the West Bank – Area A. Area B (28 per cent) is subject to joint Israeli-Palestinian military and Palestinian civil control. Area C (more than 60 per cent) remains under full Israeli control.

Occupation impinges on every aspect of Palestinian life

Sounds like a very good reason for Palestinians to make peace with Israel. But, we know peace isn't what their leadership wants.

There is no way for Israel to unilaterally end the "occupation". Anything Israel does unilaterally will result in a new twisting of laws to try to demonstrate that Israel didn't "really" end the occupation -- witness Gaza.

The only solution to the "occupation" is a peace treaty. A peace treaty requires recognition of Israel as a State, and as a State for the Jewish people (just as Palestine will be a State for Arab Palestinian people).

There is no way for Israel to force Palestinian recognition of this concept. We just have to wait. There is no other way to do this.

THAT'S STUPID! TAKE DOWN THE WALL. END THE MILITARY OCCUPATION. TOTAL FREEDOM FOR THE INDIGENOUS PEOPLE. LET THERE BE PEACE.

What, and let Islamic terrorists have a free hand at doing what you muhammedans do?

So, in your opinion, neither the Jewish people nor the Arab Palestinians should have independent self-determination?

Are you talking about this wall?:
The barrier was built during the Second Intifada that began in September 2000, and was defended by the Israeli government as necessary to stop the wave of violence inside Israel that the uprising had brought with it.[5] The Israeli government argues in defense of the wall, that between 2000 and July 2003 (completion of the "first continuous segment"), 73 suicide bombings were carried out from the West Bank, while from August 2003 to the end of 2006, only 12 attacks were carried out

Now why would they want to do that with the high success of reducing suicide bombing attacks?

That might be true if the wall was built on the Green Line between Israel and the West Bank. But it is not.

Oh, my. You're suggesting that Israel should have acted more generously in its little dalliance with Islamic terrorists?

The second Intifada that the Palestinians initiated? TOO BAD !!!!

The Ramadan fast is affecting his memory, he forgot that the wall prevents the Palestinian suicide animals from killing Israelis.

I do not accept zionist self-victimizing. Those with the free US arms were rarely the victims in history.
Evidence:
When Hamas recognized Israel, Israel´s response was the 2006 war. But that was Israel´s pre-condition for two-state talks.

When exactly did Hamas recognize Israel?

Hamas accepts 1967 borders, but will never recognize Israel, top official says

2006 War?

Do you mean the Hamas/Fatah civil war of 2006, which Hamas won? And when Abbas had to flee to the "West Bank" ?

Timeline: Hamas-Fatah conflict

(Free US arms - now, that is a strange saying. I never heard of that.
What does it mean? )

Israel's war on Hamas in 2006 (when Israel left Gaza) was a precondition to a two state war? Israel gives up land and it is war against Hamas?
The problem being.....there was no Israel war on Hamas from 2006 on.
Only rockets upon rockets (about 14,000 so far ) being launched by Hamas against Israel (civilian targets) once they won the election, the civil war settled down, and Hamas was the winner.

Your sources seem to be a bit off with the history of the region, would you not say?

March 2006: Olmert affirms demand for acknowledgment:
"Acting Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said Wednesday that he would not wait years for Hamas to recognize Israel, a precondition for peace talks, and that he was prepared to take unilateral steps in the meantime."

"The Hamas movement is ready to recognize agreements signed with Israel, and in fact recognize Israel, but only within the '67 borders, senior Hamas member Khaled Suleiman said Wednesday."

Operation Summer Rains - Wikipedia

Operation Summer Rains began because ??

Operation "Summer Rains" (Hebrew: מבצע גשמי קיץ‎‎ Mivtza Gishmey Kayitz) refers to the series of battles between Palestinian militants and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) during summer 2006, prompted by Palestinian operations which resulted in the capture of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit.
---------

DId Israel start that war, or did it start with Hamas killing a soldier and kidnapping Gilad Shalit?
Attacking, killing and kidnapping, are all declarations of war.

The Arab leaders have been refusing to live side by side a Jewish State since 1920, with the first riots against the Jews.

The Arab leaders demand thousands of preconditions, and offer nothing in return.

The Israelis say, we are not waiting anymore. Which is exactly what any other country would have done.

The Arabs said NO in 1937 and in 1947 to any partition of what was left of the Mandate for Palestine. And lost every war against Israel, with the intent of destroying that country and killing all the Jews in it.

Tell us more about your knowledge of the subject.
